We got up at 8am and got the tram to the bus station and got a bus to Lucca that only took an hour. When we got off the bus we went to the tourist information centre where they gave us a map and pointed out the main tourist attractions.
We walked towards the Piazza dell'Anfiteatro - the walled centre. We stumbled on a bakery that looked good and a had queue. The bread and the sandwiches looked good which I should have tried.
I got a white chocolate and jam pastry. Was messy but nice
Holly got a pain au raisin which had icing on top.
When we got to the walled centre it was funny because there's a Disney filmed Luca and thought it was based on the city. Turns out it's not and it's a fictional place and based more on the Italian Rivera and as there's no water near actual Lucca! We should have watched the film again the night before but ended up watching it that night when we got back.
There's a few towers you can go up and we chose to go up the Guinigi Tower - the tower with trees at the top of it. Got a nice view up of the city from there.
There was also an art gallery that was part of the ticket so we went and walked around. Was quite good and interesting.
We went to see the city walls
Holly went into the cathedral but I didn't want to go so I sat outside and waited for her.
We wanted to try Tordelli which is a dish from Lucca - their version of ravioli/tortellini. We ended up back in the main amphitheatre and went to Sotto Sotto.
Parma Ham with Melon
Tordelli filled with meat in a Bolognese sauce
Testroli pasta with green pesto, green beans and potatoes
Both pastas were really good
We got the bus back at 5pm to Florence. We were so tired and was falling asleep on the bus back. We met up with Sindy and co in the restaurant they were eating at.
Could have had dinner with them but went to this sandwich place Holly wanted to try.
Ham with pesto and figs was nice
After we met up Sindy, James, Maya and her mum and dad and got a gelato.
I didn't get anything to eat so on the walk back to the hotel I got a chicken nugget Happy Meal. Turns out Happy Meals don't come with sauce you have to pay extra but it does come with fruit and a toy.
When we got back we wanted Luca in bed and realised it was very much not based on Lucca the city which is very misleading!
