Happy Chinese New Year!

恭喜发财! 新年快乐!

Kung Hei Fat Choi, San Leen Faai Lok!
2013 Year of the Snake!
Yesterday was officially the new Chinese year! The day changes every year as the Chinese follow the Lunar calender but they obviously have the same new year as the rest of the world too. They have the best celebrations in China which last for days! So much better than the around the world new year on the 1st of January which is only really celebrated on New Years Eve (31st December). The holiday actually lasts for 15 days in China which is the longest festival in the Chinese calender! In China families will all get together and have the biggest banquet you can imagine with the nicest food. There will be all celebrations all over the towns & cities, dragon dancing, fire crackers. I really hope I will be able to spend Chinese New Year in China one year.

These photos were taken yesterday...

Studded Collar Denim Shirt - Marks & Spencer Sale
Long Sleeve Black Top - George, Asda
Layered Necklace - Pull & Bear
Zipped Leggins - H&M

These photos are pretty rubbish as I didn't have time to take some proper ones! This shirt was from the Marks & Spencer sale a couple of weeks ago was only £9 reduced from £39.50! Been wanting a studded shirt for ages!Traditionally people would wear red & something new, sadly I don't actually own anything red as I don't really like red but this shirt is new & the first time I've worn it.. My necklaces have red on them but don't think that counts...

These sweet treats will be eaten during Chinese New Year. I can't tell what they all are as I don't know myself! The round orange circles are actually carrot, the orange with holes in are lotus, the stringy white stuff next to the tangerine are coconut, the thick sticks are melon & next to them on the right are ginger. The rest I'm actually not sure!

As always for any special occasion we will go to Nanny Wing's for dinner! I actually forgot to take a picture of the dinner! But we had crispy duck & pancakes, rice with duck, crispy pork, chicken, vegetables, fish, potatoes.
It was also the first time for my dog Frodo to meet my cousin's 5 month old Bichon Frise puppy Bella. We weren't too sure whether they'd get along as my dog has a problem and fights with all other dogs but we were hoping as Bella is only a puppy he'll be nice. Luckily they didn't fight apart from Bella was following him & annoying him so he growl & bark at her. They were running around the living room & Bella got too excited & wee'd on the carpet. Gran was not happy at all, they're definitely banned form her house now!

Bella's so playful they've taught her to jump up!

The Wing grandchildren, as it's Nany Wing's birthday, her birthday falls near Chinese New Year as she follows the Chinese Calender. The birthday cake is actually made by my Uncle's Girlfriend! How amazing does it look?? It's a fruit and cream sponge cake, with mango, melon, pineapple, strawberries & kiwi! I don't like cream sadly so I just ate all the fruit.

You also get these Chinese New Year sweets which my little brother is obsessed with I don't think they're that special but they are different to normal hard boiled sweets.
Also the best tradition about Chinese New Year of course is getting these red envelopes filled with money! They are traditionally given out by married couples or the elderly to children which of course is great for us!

There is so much to Chinese New Year like what exactly happens on each day which I actually don't know about as being Chinese and living in Liverpool we do miss a lot of! But you can look online as there's plenty of info & to see when it falls next year!
I hope you went to your local China Town yesterday to see the dragon & lion dancing or had chinese food to get into the spirit of Chinese New Year as it's a great celebration! If you didn't get a chance to go out this year as I didn't go out as the weather in Liverpool was horrible I hope you make the effort to go next year!
