Spitroast

Went for lunch with Holly to Spitroast on Smithdown Road. We actually walked in and sat down at Naked Lunch but they were in the middle of changing from breakfast to the lunch menu and said we would have to wait till 2pm (would have to wait 20+ minutes) and it could be a while as they had quite a few orders. We had a look at the menu and just didn't like the look of it so went to Spitroast.

We should have just went there first cos we really enjoyed it. Service was so quick and the food was really nice.

Holly got the Superfood Salad - Rocket and spinach, roast beetroot, feta cheese, quinoa, avocado, edamame beans, pumpkin and pomegranate seeds and a light dressing with added chicken breast.

We had a look at Instagram before we ordered our food and Holly's salad looked different in every photo they posted of it and this just looks different to everything they've posted on their Instagram!

I got the Chicken, Broccoli and Forest Mushroom Pasta - Penne in a light white wine and cream sauce, toasted pine nuts and Parmesan.

I thought the portion was quite small until I started eating it and it felt never ending!

I got a free side of bbq chicken wings as I have an Independent Liverpool card. - Free and chicken wings my 2 favourite things!

The food was nice and it came out so quick. The roast was definitely the most popular thing on the menu today and even that was coming out straight away when people ordered it so service is super quick. It was busy all the tables were full the whole time we were in there but we got a table straight away when we went so went at a good time and a family of 12 came they had to wait but managed to get a table. Quite a few people went in for take outs as well.

I am stuffed now as there was so much pasta and I had 4 chicken wings cos Holly doesn't really like chicken on the bone so only helped me to eat 2 of them. The chicken was nice and wasn't dry and Holly said her's was too when usually chicken breast is pretty dry. We've decided all chicken should be cooked on the spit like this so it's shredded and just falls away.

Also the food is very Instagramable. I'm really pleased with these photos that I took only with my phone. I would definitely go again and recommend it. If you like chicken or Nando's I'd say go here it's well better. Nando's is just dry chicken that takes forever to cook!

Wagamama

David's home for the weekend so he met up with me and Danielle for dinner last night. We went to Wagamama in Speke.

David got the Vegan Katsu Curry - Seitan coated in crispy panko breadcrumbs, covered in an aromatic curry sauce with sticky white rice and a seasoned side salad.

Danielle got the Naked Katsu - Grilled curried chicken on a bed of brown rice, with edamame beans, shredded carrots, dressed mixed leaves and Japanese pickles. Served with a side of katsu curry.

I got the Yaki Udon - Udon noodles, with chicken, prawns, chikuwa, egg, beansprouts, leeks, mushrooms and peppers. Garnished with fried shallots, picked ginger and sesame seeds.

Vegetable gyoza

Mixed Mushroom and Panko Aubergine Hirata Steamed Buns - Two small, fluffy Asian buns stuffed with mixed mushroom and panko aubergine, served with coriander and mayonnaise.

I always seem to get the same thing.. udon noodles as they're the best noodles if you ever order noodles! It was nice apart from the gyoza has coriander in. Everything seems to have coriander in it so I need to remember to say no coriander in anything when I go.

It's always nice to catch up with David as he's not home often so we only really see him like twice a year! In the summer and Christmas unless we go down and visit London which I'm definitely due as it's been over a year now since I went to Croydon.

After we went next door to TGI Friday just to sit down and have a drink. David and Danielle both had a drink I just had a smoothie. David actually only had the one as he was driving - David is a changed man!

After we went to Maccies for an ice cream. I can't say no to an ice cream if everyone else is having one and I've done really good not to have one this week especially with that heatwave !

Zizzi

Turns out July has been a bit of a boring month... I haven't blogged anything! I don't even remember what has happened but I think it's because the past 2 weeks I have been trying to decorate my bedroom and it's not going well it's still not done... Bed is still in the wrong place and my stuff is all over the house. It's mostly painted apart from behind my wardrobe but hopefully be done tomorrow..! Ikea trip as I'm off work.

Went the gym this morning then went for lunch at Zizzi with Jo and Rich. We had Meerkat Meals which meant we got 2 for 1 on food.

Jo and Rich both got Rainbow gnocci for the starter - weren't very colourful like the photo on the menu. They were nice never had gnocci before.

I got Ravioli di capra - goat's cheese & spinach-flecked ravioli with tomato sauce, super green pesto and pine nuts.

It was really nice I liked it but as always ravioli is tiny!

Rich got Spaghetti bolognese with extra peppers and onions.

Jo got Spaghetti chorizo carbonara.

We got a Gluten free Classic pepperoni campagna - pepperoni, ham, mushrooms, mozzarella & rosemary pizza to share.

Gluten free pizza was alright but the base was a bit weird was really thin and greasy.

Food was nice enjoyed it and came to £35 for the 3 of us cos of the food being 2 for 1.

After Sarah met up with us and we went to see The Lion King. My absolute favourite film ever and just my whole childhood. I shouldn't be allowed to watch it though as soon as the music started playing I was sobbing. This happened last time when I went to see it in 3D and the musical in the theatre. I think it's just nostalgia of watching it every day when I was a kid and being the no 1 fan owning everything I could. Cleaning my room out confirmed I was definitely number 1 fan.

I wasn't sure about this live action as all the others have had both humans and animals and this was fully animals how will it play with them singing. It actually worked really well and I liked it. Spoiler - it isn't exactly the same as the original like some bits have been taken out and added some new songs but all the original songs are still in it.

I also went to see Toy Story 4 with Danielle about 2 weeks ago and that was good it was funny. Don't really remember the 3rd one but did enjoy this one. Think I'm pretty much caught up with all Disney films only have a few more to watch but I think I've watched pretty much all the main popular ones. This is probably why I've had a boring July been catching up on Disney films!

Also it's national ice cream day which meant of course I had to have one not that I ever need an excuse to have one it has been a while!
