Yo! Sushi

Went to Yo! Sushi in Speke for lunch today as it was Rich's birthday last week but they went away to Devon. I've not been to Yo! Sushi since I was probably 16/17. We used to go every weekend when we were in town. It wasn't cheap then so I don't know how we afforded it because I didn't have a job or pocket money. We went that much that we were mates with the manager. I've avoided going since as it's kind of the fast food of sushi and tend to go to more authentic independent places.

Jo and Rich have been to this one a few times and said it was good and that's where he wanted to go so I was up for giving it a try again.

It wasn't as big as I thought it was going to be as the other restaurants are bigger. But it was nice in there, open and spacious. We could have sat in a booth but then wouldn't have all been able to get food off the belt so chose to sit on the counter.

We started getting food off the belt and then ordered some stuff off the menu. Rich got the Yakisoba Chicken Noodles. Me and Jo got Poke Bowls.

Jo left - Protein Squeaky bean hoisin "duck" - Base - Half & half (Sushi rice & spinach), topped with avocado, slaw, sweetcorn, edamame and kaiso. Sprinkled with pomegranate seeds, red chilli & sesame drizzled with your favourite sauce - Jo got Korean Sweet Chilli

I got Protein - Dynamite salmon - Base - Half & half - £11.95

The Poke bowl was nice but could have definitely done with more salmon and looked nicer on the photo in the menu! The salmon was in chunks rather than just mush.. on the menu it had Unami soy-sesame as a sauce but when the girl was taking the order on the machine that wasn't an option for sauce so I just went to any random one. Didn't need sauce anyway. It tasted fresh just as is.

The food was nice and from 3-3:30pm every day you get 25% off food off the belt. So it came to £67. I forgot to take a photo of the dishes we took off the belt, but we did get quite a few and they were the expensive ones too.
I would still choose to go to an independent sushi restaurant but it will now be an option of somewhere to eat if I do want sushi.

Ninja Warrior

Went to Ninja Warrior UK in Speke today with Jo as her birthday activity. She turned 40 last week but was at the lakes so only just got to see her today. We booked a 2 hour session which was a bad idea. An hour would have been well enough! We'd been to the gym this morning - I did yoga and Jo trained chest then we were meant to do a workout together but my body currently hates me - I have a bad knee which isn't the knee that I injured during lockdown but the other knee. Jo said her knee hurts as well from all the walking at the lakes and she twisted her wrist the other week which hasn't recovered so we didn't want to do anything too hard to save ourselves for this but ended up doing nothing for 30 minutes then did 10 minutes of abs. We both went home, had something to eat then went for 1:30pm.

We did Total Ninja in 2018 with Sarah when she got it for my birthday and this wasn't as good as that. It's smaller but has a big inflatable bit that is aimed at kids. This felt smaller but don't think it was, think just because it has different obstacles but did find the ones at Total Ninja were better. We could have went on the inflatable bit but you had to buy the socks to go on it. It was really busy and full of kids. But we did book during peak hours which also cost an extra £2.

Most of it was really hard which we couldn't do never mind most kids. Most of it is based off the TV show and one of the staff was actually on the UK TV show and represented his own country think he said Germany. He showed us a video of him doing the whole course in 55 seconds! But he was like Tarzan and could leap from one end to the other. He didn't touch every piece and mainly just leaped from one end to the end but good going wouldn't even be able to do that in double the time.

I did manage to beat the wall this time even though I could barely run up. Struggled more on the small kid's wall.

One thing I could actually do was the monkey bars and the swinging monkey bars! You can watch the full video of me doing the monkey bars on my Instagram. Unfortunately Jo didn't get a video of me on the swinging monkey bars.

I also managed to do half of this. Couldn't get the swing to get onto the second set.

I struggled on this and couldn't complete it because I have blisters on my hands - got a blood blister that actually burst so that was killing. I got gloves from last time but forget to bring them. Probably would have been able to do more if I brought them as my hands wouldn't have been as sore.

We definitely should have only booked an hour, that would have been enough. We spent more time not doing anything than doing stuff. It was really hard and there was just kids all over the place. It wasn't too bad for the first 30 minutes then a giant party turned up. We were definitely the oldest people there minus the odd parents with kids then this couple who were mid 20s turned up towards the end of our session. My upper body is aching now and it is a good workout but I think it's definitely more aimed at kids. An hour is well enough and best booking in the off peak time when there's not kids getting in your way.

Post Christmas

I've not had a day where I've stayed in and done nothing since Christmas Eve. Every day I've been out seeing people. On Friday I went out for lunch with Sarah to Wagamama. I've not seen her in ages as all she does in work. She was actually in work after we met up.

Sarah got the cod ramen.

I got the teppanyaki yaki soba but in soup. This is what I usually get but I get it with udon noodles from the teppanyaki but I didn't want something that was fried. I asked the waiter who had to ask the chef and ask around. He came back and said it was fine but they didn't know how it would turn out. I said it would be fine because with noodles you can have it dry or in a soup. I did ask for udon noodles but they did it wrong and gave me yaki soba noodles which was fine I didn't want the hassle of the food going to waste.

I did take a photo of Sarah with her food but I clearly mustn't have as there is no photo which is really weird and never happened before.

I went home and later on in the night I met up with Kelly and Josh in Woolton Village. I met up with them in Pickled Olive where we had a drink then went over to Nowhere but it was packed so we walked back out. John Kelly's brother came to meet us and we ended back in Pickled Olive as it wasn't as busy and had another drink. Then we went over to the Elephant for a drink. We ended up in one of John's mates family parties down the road. (Kelly knows him too). I wasn't even drinking as I had my car and didn't get back till 1am. It was a weird night but it's always nice to catch up with Kelly as I won't see her for a while now!

So I made waffle mix on boxing morning before I went to the match when I made scones to make them in Tracy's as she has a waffle maker but there was so much food we didn't end up making them so she asked me to go back yesterday to make them.

Good job we didn't make them on boxing night when everyone was around as it was so messy. It just over flowed out as the maker wasn't deep enough to hold it all in when we didn't even fill it up that much! I'm so glad I don't have one as I would probably use it once and realise the mess and never use it again as it was a nightmare to wash. Definitely going out for waffles and not making my own or someone else can make and do the cleaning up.

They turned out alright but the recipe I used was a bit rubbish they weren't really sweet you have to have it with something but I guess you wouldn't really eat them dry. The mix ended up making quite a few so I used up all the mix and brought them home to just toast them to warm them up. They taste alright once they're toasted like they've just been freshly made.

This is is it for the year! It will officially be 2020 after tomorrow. The year has flown by - I feel like I've done loads but also haven't like there was so much more I could have done. I did run a marathon, go to Canada and a cruise - which I need to finish posting which I will eventually... Hope you've had a good 2019 and an ever better 2020!

Zizzi

Turns out July has been a bit of a boring month... I haven't blogged anything! I don't even remember what has happened but I think it's because the past 2 weeks I have been trying to decorate my bedroom and it's not going well it's still not done... Bed is still in the wrong place and my stuff is all over the house. It's mostly painted apart from behind my wardrobe but hopefully be done tomorrow..! Ikea trip as I'm off work.

Went the gym this morning then went for lunch at Zizzi with Jo and Rich. We had Meerkat Meals which meant we got 2 for 1 on food.

Jo and Rich both got Rainbow gnocci for the starter - weren't very colourful like the photo on the menu. They were nice never had gnocci before.

I got Ravioli di capra - goat's cheese & spinach-flecked ravioli with tomato sauce, super green pesto and pine nuts.

It was really nice I liked it but as always ravioli is tiny!

Rich got Spaghetti bolognese with extra peppers and onions.

Jo got Spaghetti chorizo carbonara.

We got a Gluten free Classic pepperoni campagna - pepperoni, ham, mushrooms, mozzarella & rosemary pizza to share.

Gluten free pizza was alright but the base was a bit weird was really thin and greasy.

Food was nice enjoyed it and came to £35 for the 3 of us cos of the food being 2 for 1.

After Sarah met up with us and we went to see The Lion King. My absolute favourite film ever and just my whole childhood. I shouldn't be allowed to watch it though as soon as the music started playing I was sobbing. This happened last time when I went to see it in 3D and the musical in the theatre. I think it's just nostalgia of watching it every day when I was a kid and being the no 1 fan owning everything I could. Cleaning my room out confirmed I was definitely number 1 fan.

I wasn't sure about this live action as all the others have had both humans and animals and this was fully animals how will it play with them singing. It actually worked really well and I liked it. Spoiler - it isn't exactly the same as the original like some bits have been taken out and added some new songs but all the original songs are still in it.

I also went to see Toy Story 4 with Danielle about 2 weeks ago and that was good it was funny. Don't really remember the 3rd one but did enjoy this one. Think I'm pretty much caught up with all Disney films only have a few more to watch but I think I've watched pretty much all the main popular ones. This is probably why I've had a boring July been catching up on Disney films!

Also it's national ice cream day which meant of course I had to have one not that I ever need an excuse to have one it has been a while!

Pumpkin Picking

Went pumpkin picking with Jo and Sarah today. Obviously after going to the gym this morning. We went to Church View Farm in Lydiate which is like a 25 minute drive.

Jo practising on how to pick a pumpkin up at Morrison's before we went to the farm. This was £8.

I don't think I realised till this year that you could actually go pumpkin picking in the UK. I always though it was an American thing as they love Halloween.

It wasn't quite what I was expecting I thought you had to like pull the pumpkins out yourself from the ground and not actually like placed there. As it's the last weekend till Halloween there was hardly any pumpkins left. The ones that were left were battered and mashed. As they'd ran out there was ones they had to bring in. There were 3 for £10.

Jo dropped Sarah...

The really orange ones weren't grown on the farm...

We all decided to wear Timberland boots...

Who needs a pumpkin this big?!

We had more fun pushing each other round in the wheelbarrow more than actually looking for a pumpkin...

We then went back to Jo's to carve our pumpkins!

I carved my first ever pumpkin!

Sarah's

Jo's

Yep I carved my first ever pumpkin at 25... It was fun can't say it was anything I was missing out on like. I'm not really excited to have to do it again like but I'm glad to say I have carved one and didn't cause any damage or injury!

Had a fun day out! When Rich came back we went to the cinema to see Halloween. I didn't want to go as I hate scary films. I'm such a wimp I hate jumpy stuff like that spent most the film with my hands over my eyes and at one point I did nearly jump on Sarah. The film was rubbish, don't get how people enjoy films like that at all. I don't think I'm sleeping tonight and I've got work in the morning!
