Mulan

Was Mulan last night. Went to our mate from the gym Tracy's boyfriend Peter's 70th birthday party.

Heels - Carvela

Love this dress from Miss Selfridge which has actually gone in the sale now. I couldn't look more Chinese if I tried! Had a nightmare trying to get it on though as the loop for the buttons wasn't big enough and didn't stretch so I just couldn't tie it for ages!

We don't always wear gym clothes and can make an effort!

I did go for a run with Jo in the morning - we did 8.5 miles until my foot was hurting so much I couldn't run no more. We had to walk the rest home but if we ran back it would've been a good 10 miles. I'm in die need of a good pair of running shoes as it turns out my foot is bruised! So it's not just internal pain which means I'm out for a couple of weeks now which is so annoying. I went in this morning and could only train upper body. I've got to set out a proper training plan with the miles I need to do as I think I might be doing a bit too much. Need to build them miles up doing short and long runs rather than just a big long one!

Mulan by night. Julie by day.

Find out the middle of next month on whether I've got a place for London!

Maggie Fu

Dinner date with Danielle to Maggie Fu tonight on Smithdown Road. It's a new Asian restaurant that's opened next to Tribeca opposite to Tiger Rock and The Tavern. They do Japanese style ramen and udon noodles with Chinese char siu, roast duck, wontons and fish balls. They do rice dishes too.

I got char siu noodles with extra wontons in a meaty broth - I ordered udon noodles but got ramen so had to send it back and got it re done.

Ramen noodles are instant thin noodles. Udon noodles are thick white round rice noodles - they're my favourite noodles and would always choose and recommend them if you ever get noodles!

Could have done with more veg like - you get 1 pak choi leaf! You get loads of meat but hardly and noodles. I was still hungry after it! Wish I got fish balls with it too.

Danielle got udon noodles in a curry broth with 3 meats - roast chicken, roast duck and char siu with a boiled egg. Didn't like that her egg was hard boiled, thought it would be a runny egg - I would've sent that back but she was fine with it though luckily.

Chicken gyoza

The food was nice and it's reasonably priced. Mine come to £9.20 - it was an extra £1 for the wontons. Just a shame you don't get a lot and I was still hungry after it! Portions could do with being a big bigger. If you like Asian noodles should give it a try.

September Runs

Marathon training update! Run 29 it's going alright - not running as much as I'm wanting but I am getting my weekly run in. The plan is to do at least 2 short and 1 long run a week but I've only been doing 1 long run. I'm getting the miles in I guess that's all that matters really.

Did an unexpectedly extra long run on Tuesday night with Jonny. I did say I wanted to do between 8 -10 miles (13 - 16km) we ended up doing 11.6 miles (18.7km). We ran from the gym then ran to meet up with Angie and basically ran everywhere...

Couldn't even tell you where we went as we basically just went down every side road in a circle! We did go to Court Hey Park and a I managed to do all the monkey bars which I'm quite proud of. Weight training is paying off - I'd ran about 5/6 miles at this point as well. We got back just before it started to absolutely pour down with gale force winds. I'm dreading having to run in the rain again.

It was a good run but I did start to feel my knees as we were running back to the gym. My legs were tired the day after and I'm in dying need of a pair of decent trainers. My Nike Pegasus are not cutting it but stability trainers are so expensive but I guess I'm gonna have to invest in a pair if I'm gonna do this marathon!

The week before I met up with Jonny and Ness and did 6.2 miles

6 miles

3 miles

Sarah's not ran in about 3 weeks cos she's got shin splints. She needs to invest in some new trainers too! Come on Sarah we need to go on runs again your marathon training is none existent - you didn't like the heat.. That's sadly well and truly gone now! We find out next month if we've got a place in the London marathon too!

Currently shopping around for a pair of stability trainers but it's hard to find a decent pair cheap they're all at least £120 which is a bit steep but I guess they're gonna be an investment as I'll definitely run over 120 miles training for this marathon!

Total Ninja

For my birthday Sarah got me a day out to Total Ninja in Manchester. We'd been to the gym in the morning and trained back which was a really bad idea... Jo came with us and I drove down. It's in Trafford Park down the road from the Trafford Centre.

Kids section - probably would've done better on this...

We were booked onto the recruit one which looks so hard!

Me and Jo started on the beginner and Sarah was suppose to be filming us doing it on my phone but it turns out she didn't press record! Would have had the best you've been framed footage I was falling everywhere! She was just taking photos! The beginner was really hard but I did manage to get to the 3rd monkey bar before I fell off. But couldn't manage the rest it was hard.

We went onto the intermediate - the monkey bars were easier as they were swinging where as on the beginner they were like ladders just ran along the top. The bars are all really high up. I could just about jump up the reach them but it was a really high drop. Just think I was going to twist my ankle when I fell. I thought it would've been a foam pit you fell into which would've have cushioned your fall. I just manage to get to the 3rd bar but no one caught it on video!

We thought you had to try and step onto each one - they were really far apart but it's turns out you sit on the high ones..!

We should have watched the videos on their Instagram before we went cos then we would've actually known how to do the different obstacles!

Tarzan couldn't gracefully reach the net sadly.

Not making excuses but you got the shortest run up on the walls! I managed to grab the top but couldn't pull myself up! But Jo did cos she's a machine!

It was so hard like it was a proper work out I was sweating and come off aching like I'd done a full session. It was so fun! Definitely better than doing tough mudder at least I come out clean and dry after it - might have been sweating but I can deal with that. We took so many videos and boomerangs which you can see my on my Instagram highlights here. Didn't stop laughing all the way through it. It was an hour but it felt like we'd been in the gym for hours! Was knackered after it.

After we got changed and went to the Trafford Centre. We had a walk around then me and Jo got a Maccies ice cream.

We went for food at Pesto's - Italian tapas.

I got Ali di pollo al forno - Chicken wings Tuscan-style, marinated then baked in the oven
Verdure al forno - Fresh colourful seasonal vegetables, lightly seasoned and simply roasted in the oven
Farfalle al salmone affumicato e asparagi - Farfalle pasta with smoked salmon, asparagus, garlic in a white wine and double cream sauce

Jo got - Polenta fritta al parmigiano e rosemarino - polenta chips made with rosemary, Gran Moravia cheese
Polpette di manzo - Spicy meatballs in a tomato garlic and herb sauce
Fettuccine alla carbonara

Sarah also got the Polenta chips
Insalata Caprese - Buffalo mozzarella and ripe tomato, drizzled with olive oil, balsamic and fresh basil dressing
Spiedini di pollo - Skewer of marinated chicken breast wrapped in fine cured ham, sealed and baked in the oven

My chicken wings were spicy which I was expecting which made all my food taste weird. I didn't think the pasta was that good I've had better. There used to be a Pesto in Liverpool One but it's closed down - think it might be Wagamama there now instead.

Jo wanted something sweet for dessert so we ended up getting another ice cream...

It was a fat day but we earned it!

Thanks for the birthday present Sarah I loved it! It was so much fun and spent the whole day crying laughing even though we didn't properly complete it all!

Baltic Market

Finally went to the Baltic Market with Holly on Saturday before we went to see the Terracotta Warriors. It's basically a food hall that has different pop up restaurants that change every month serving street food at the old Cains brewery by the Baltic Triangle.

I got sea bass from Gills fish bar. The sea bass was nice but not filling at all especially for £7. Don't get why the pak choi was raw either?

Holly got halloumi bites from Hafla Halfa also tiny and not filling either. This was £5.50.

The idea of Baltic Market is good but the food is expensive especially for how small the portions are. You'd have to spend so much to be full. Drinks are expensive too, I got a pineapple juice and Holly got a Ting £8.

Kinder Bueno Bubble Waffle - Midnight Delivery £7.50

Thanks for the photos Holly!

I got a Kinder Bueno Bubble Waffle from Midnight Delivery. I did want a plain waffle but the girl pressured me into getting ice cream with it so I said ok. Then said it was £7.50 which is the same price as the ones that were on the board - Kinder Bueno, M&M and the other ones they did with loads of stuff on! So basically the Kinder Bueno and egg cost nothing? Surely a plain waffle is like £2 - actually less as it's just batter made from flour, egg, milk and sugar? The girl was so snotty and rude I wish I just said leave it when she told me a plain one was £7.50 as it wasn't even nice. The waffle was really soggy and didn't taste nice. There was a big chunk of chocolate stuck to the middle of it. I didn't enjoy it and regret getting it! Wouldn't recommend at all.

The whole Baltic Market experience wasn't really great I would have preferred going to a restaurant as the food wasn't filling at all especially for the price we paid. It's a good place to go for drinks but as it's just benches it's not that good for groups as it's hard to find a space to sit. I do like the idea of market just think the food should be better and not as pricey.
