Terracotta Warriors

China's First Emperor and The Terracotta Warriors

Finally got to see the Terracotta Warriors at the World Museum in Liverpool! My surprise birthday present off Holly was a ticket to see them. I've been wanting to see them since I heard about them but couldn't find a good time to go. Pretty much all weekends were sold out and I couldn't do day ones being in work. They've just recently released evening ones so we went last night at 7pm after going to the Baltic Market (That's going to be a separate post!)

It's on the 2nd floor of the World Museum next to the library behind St George's Hall. You go in and see a 3 minute video which you didn't learn anything from. Bit pointless.. - we were the only people as we turned up after 7pm everyone else must have turned up dot on 7pm which made no difference.

I had no idea what the Terracotta Warriors were before I went which isn't a bad thing as the point of the exhibition is to learn about it.

It's an army made from terracotta that were buried with the first Chinese Emperor Qin Sin Huang in 210 - 209BC to protect him in the afterlife. They were buried super deep under ground and were only found in 1974 by local farmers in Lingtong District, Xi'an.

Miniature version of how the army was made.

The main attraction!

Each one represents a different warrior - the first guy is a guard then the others are different warriors with different roles holding different weapons. I didn't realise they were going to be that tall. I thought they were going to be about 3ft tall but they're all different heights according to their roles. It's mad that estimates in 2007 in pits that they are more than 8000 soldiers, 130 chariots with 520 horses, and 150 calvary horses. How they are in such amazing condition and the detail that's gone into them. From the strands of hair to the detailing on the clothes. They were all coloured but over time the colours have faded.

We waited for everyone to go then had a little bit of fun...

If looks could kill..

One of the workers came over to us and was telling us we shouldn't be laughing and trying to position us then was like no one will see these photos they don't have to be perfect. Oh she doesn't know the half of it...

Holly's favourite she loved this guy!

The emperor had it all covered he even buried food with him so he could eat! There's nothing he didn't take with him, there's instruments, plants, money, ornaments, pots, pans, jewellery even streams to protect his tomb!

They don't think they will ever be able to get to the emperor's tomb as it's buried that far down. I think we all need to think of a funeral plan as who's planing on having a whole army with food buried with them when they die? He literally had it all covered there isn't anything he hasn't got with him! He even killed some of his men to protect him and so people couldn't find where he was buried! He was a clever guy.

I learnt so much and it's definitely worth a visit. Tickets are £14.50 but there's discounts for students and kids just check online. It's so worth it as the only chance you're going to be able to see the warriors is to actually go to China. This is the first time they've been out of China! If you want to see them you haven't got long left they're only here till Sunday 28th October.
