On Friday night I got the train down to Nottingham to see Holly who's doing her BPTC to be a barrister there. The 2.5 hour train journey on my own wasn't the greatest especially the fact my original seats I booked were backwards seats so I moved, but cos the train takes a detour up to Sheffield then back down to Nottingham the train goes in the opposite direction so had to play musical chairs & move seats so I was facing the right way! I got to Nottingham at around 10:30pm as I was in college till 3pm & the 8:03pm train was the cheapest.
On Saturday we had breakfast then walked around the city centre. The weekend should be called matcha green tea as we had so much of it that our blood might actually be green now! In the Chinese supermarket in Liverpool they had green tea hello panda so I brought some for Holly to try then we found the Chinese supermarket in Notts city centre which Holly hadn't found yet (she's been there since September) & we got green tea pocky & green tea cookies.
We went to a little cafe called Fox. Since we were going all out trying matcha, Holly got a matcha latte & I got a matcha green tea. The latte was weird it tasted like a sponge cake when it comes out of the oven. It wasn't great but I ended up drinking it for Holly as she didn't like it. Only thing she did like was the cookies. I think the pocky was my favourite though. So that hype is definitely gone now but I still want to try the kitkats.
We went back to Holly's student flat to make lunch. Had a super healthy lunch of avocado, chicken & tomato on seeded brown bread with a super smoothie. Spinach, apple, pear, banana & pineapple using a nutribullet.
We went to Revolution de Cuba for a drink as it was happy hour 2-4-1 cocktails 5-7pm. I got I think it was the Floridita Margarita - tequila, sugar, lime, cranberry & grapefruit. It was disgusting so strong I couldn't even drink it. I think I've learnt I only think fruity tequila well only a shot... Holly got the coconut daiquris - coconut rum shaken with lime. That was really strong as well.
Wasted cocktail as we both couldn't drink it. We went to Zaap a Thai street food restaurant. It's so cool inside, the it's like you're in the streets of Thailand with all the bright lights.
The interior is probably the best restaurant I've ever been to. It just makes it feel even more authentic, imagining you are in the hustle & bustle of a Thai street having your dinner.
Gai Satay - Chicken satay, chicken gyoza & siu mais which look different to the usual Chinese ones we have.
Holly's main sweet & sour chicken
Rad na mee krob/sen yai (gai) - Wide flat rice noodles in gravy sauce with chicken & vegetables. We didn't know what gravy sauce was but it's just like what I would usually order if I want to a Chinese restaurant.
Custard pancake with vanilla ice cream. When it came to the table we were like what's going on why's it green?? Is it matcha?? There was no mention on the menu that it would be green but it was nice, I love anything with custard.
I like Zaap there was way too much choice I couldn't decide what I wanted. It wasn't that expensive either. It cost us £21 each including our drinks, Holly got an iced tea, I got a mango juice & we got a side of steam vegetables which we didn't even need. We think they should bring one to Liverpool. If you're in Nottingham or Leeds you should definitely check it out! The only think is they don't take bookings, we only waited like 10 minutes on a Saturday night, which was also Valentines weekend.
They have tuk tuk's in side that have tables on.
When we got back we watched Zoolander since we both have never seen it but the reason Holly said she's never seen it is cos it's meant to be rubbish. But with the new one coming out I want to go see it. Turns out it really isn't a great film, it is funny though.
Sunday 14th February
We went out for breakfast well brunch as I wanted waffles, we spent the night googling places that did waffles for breakfast which isn't a lot. Everywhere seems to do pancakes but not waffles. We went to Coast to Coast.
I really want a waffle maker now!
After brunch we walked to Nottingham castle which doesn't look like a castle. The gates do but no the actual castle itself which was a little disappointing. It was £5 to go in but we decided not to as Holly's been in before & said it wasn't anything amazing just a museum.
There's a cat cafe, we don't think this is a good idea, why would you want cat hairs in your food & drink? Cats are supposedly clean but still they're animals that run around everywhere I couldn't go to one.
We went to Bagel Nash before I got the train back home. I got the smoked salmon with scrambled egg. But it doesn't look or taste like scrambled egg.. She microwaved it in a cup & when she took it out if looked like goats cheese or something was weird. Holly got the Mediterranean Veggie Club - Cream cheese, grilled peppers, spinach, sunflower seeds & pesto. We finally have a bagel shop in Liverpool called Bagelry right in Chinatown (random place when it's full of Chinese restaurant then at the end there's a bagel shop...) that I need to try!
Nottingham is a nice city but not much to do really. There's no free places you can go to & the shops are definitely better here in Liverpool. As it's half term I've booked the week off work as well to just chill & get some stuff done. I entered a raffle to try get my hands on a pair of pirate black Yeezy boosts as they're being re-released on Friday so fingers crossed I can get a pair! I can't really afford to be splashing out but I really want a pair!
