China

After a great 12 days in Japan we went to China for 7 days. Before we booked our flights you could stay up to 7 days in China without a visa but then like the day after they changed it to 30 days. Mum was contemplating changing the flight back but it wasn't worth it. It was just a stop over to see my grandma and we had to fly back from Beijing anyway.

We didn't do much as we didn't have time to so it's just really a post of the food we had whilst in China going out for dinner most nights with my mum's friends.

We got to Tokyo airport for 4pm as our flight was at 7pm but it was delayed as it left Shenzhen late. We didn't end up taking off till 8:30pm.

The food wasn't good was really salty.

We ended up landing at 12:30am and by the time we got to my grandma's it was 2:30am and didn't get to sleep till 3:15am.

Woke up at 9:30am. Didn't have a good sleep was dead hot and noisy as they're building more apartment blocks down the road and they work 24/7 none stop.

Contrast in weather - 30 degree heat, shorts weather compared to wrapping up in layers in Japan!

I love water chestnuts (The white things in the pink bowl that look like garlic) and turns out you can eat them raw but I defo prefer them cooked.

Pineapple - 20p

Had noodles from a place downstairs. Wasn't great - who knows what the meat is...

Went shopping at the supermarket and just bought a load of matcha stuff. Actually had more matcha things than they had in Japan which I was surprised about and cheaper.

Me and my mum went for a 90 minute massage which cost £30. Back was all bruised as she used this stone that she scraped along my back. Felt nice at the time, not so much after especially trying to sleep that night.

Wonton noodles were better than the other place but again mystery meat...

Melon flavour - tasted really fake melon

The ice cream is only 20p

Guava

Had hot pot for dinner with my mum's friends. It wasn't great. First time I've had hot pot in a restaurant. Only ever had it at home or at Sindy's parents house which we used to do at Christmas when we were younger.

Went to yan ta with my mum's auntie and uncle and cousins.

Went for dinner with mum's friends at this buffet. There was some food that you went up to get yourself but then you ordered stuff off a pad and they brought it to you. We got sushi but it just wasn't the same as what we had in Japan so that was when I knew I peaked and can never have sushi unless I'm back in Japan.

It was Qingming - basically like a day of the dead festival, where the dead are celebrated. We went to the cemetery at 8:30am to see great grandparents and granddad's grave. Had all fruit, tea, a full roast goose and burnt all stuff that is offered to the dead and even firecrackers to "wake them up" to accept the food and gifts. We were there for 2 hours as the ritual took that long. When we got back we had to shower as it was really hot and sweaty there and stank from burning the firecrackers. The roast goose got brought back and we got to eat it for lunch.

Later on that night we went out for dinner with a different group of my mum's friends. A more fancy expensive dinner.

Crab

Think this was mushrooms

Some sort of meat

Chicken feet and Xiaolong bao

Went out for breakfast with uncle at a place that was downstairs.

Uncle then took us to this new shopping centre. Had this random like cat petting area in the middle of the shopping centre.

Was meant to go to Hong Kong for the day but the weather was crap so wasn't worth going.

New bakery

Spaghetti noodles

Sticky rice
Pandan bao
Choi sam veg
Custard bao

Congee

Black chicken feet

Meatballs

Meatballs

2 different lots of churn fan

Roast goose noodles

Not what I thought was going to be inside of these baos! Didn't like it had like noodles and beans in it. Was savoury.

Last breakfast we went yan ta with grandma, uncle and auntie.

We went to the airport for 5:30pm even though we knew our flight was going to be delayed. All the flights the night before and earlier to Beijing had been delayed due to bad weather. Our flight was originally at 8:10pm to land at 11:23pm and our connecting flight home at 2:55am from Beijing but our flight got delayed to 10:20pm so when we checked in I asked if they could prioritise us getting off the plane as when we get off we would have to get our luggage ourselves and check in again. I was not missing our flight home.

They put us on another flight at 8:55pm which was meant to take off at like 5pm. We couldn't check in till 7:30pm because they had to make sure they had empty seats for us. When we were due to check in they were faffing about for ages and we only had 15 minutes to get to the other end of the airport to make the flight. Was sprinting through the airport and the queue for security was dead long as everyone gets checked and they were being dead funny with power banks and took mine off me. I couldn't even be bothered to argue with them just said they could have it. Then the same thing happened with my dad he had one of Gavin's. I just said give it to them otherwise we were going to miss our flight.

Made it but was sweating. Took off at 9:26pm.

Dinner was fish with veg and mash - was not good.

Food was horrible and there was a few people who were also on our connecting flight to Manchester. There was a girl who had a connecting flight to Mexico but she had even less time to make it. We landed at 12:11am but didn't get off the plane till 12:43am as they were looking for landing space. Once we checked in we had about an hour to chill luckily.

Took off at 3am again felt sick and horrible on the flight. Was trying to sleep but couldn't. Food was crap - breakfast I got the fried rice but just picked at it.

Finally landed at 7am. Got home at like 9am. Was nice to finally be home.

We did actually go on a day trip while we were in China so that gets its own post...
