Wholemeal Scones & Rock Cakes

Wholemeal Scones

Yesterday I made a batch of wholemeal scones & rock cakes.

The recipe for scones is exactly the same as normal scones only instead of using white self-raising flour I used wholemeal self raising flour.

You can see the last post I did for scones here.

227g - Wholemeal Self Raising Flour
57g - Sugar
85g - Margarine - soften at room temperature
2 Eggs
Sultanas (Up to you how much you want to put in)

Optional
1 Tsp Vanilla Extract (Gives it more flavour)

Pre-heat oven to 200°C
Baking time 15 - 20 minutes

(Drop of milk to brush over the top)

Mix your flour & margarine with a fork

Add the sugar

Once it's all mixed you can add your sultanas

In a separate bowl whisk your 2 eggs

You can now add it to your mixture

Add a teaspoon of vanilla extract

Once your dough had all been mixed, it's time to get your hands dirty. Make sure you flour your hands to knead your dough. I just had enough wholemeal flour that I had to use normal white self-raising flour to flour my hands & table.

You can flour your tray or use baking paper for your scones to bake on.
Once you've kneaded & cut your scones out don't forget to put a milk wash on top. (I forgot to take a before photo).

Bake in the oven at 200°C for around 20 minutes. Until golden brown.

Rock Cakes

I've made these before here but actually used wholemeal self-raising flour. These were made with white self-raising flour. Again same recipe.

225g - Self Raising Flour
75g - Margarine
25g - Sugar
100g - Sultanas
1 Tsp Vanilla Extract
1 Egg
Milk

Optional
Desiccated coconut

Pre-heat oven to 190°C
Baking time 15 - 20 minutes

Mix your flour & butter together until it resembles breadcrumbs

Mix in the sugar

Add your sultanas

Mix together then make a well in the middle & beat your egg in

Add a teaspoon of vanilla extract & around 4 tablespoons of milk. With the milk we don't measure it we add it until we get the right consistency. So it's not too wet or dry

Once it's all mixed place small rocky piles onto baking paper

Bake for around 20 minutes. Until golden brown.

Happy baking!

Bastille - Wild, Wild World Tour

BASTILLE - Manchester Arena
Sunday 6th November 2016

Last night I finally got to see Bastille in Manchester Arena. I've been waiting years to see them & been listening to Wild World that much I was starting to get a little sick of it & just wanted to see them!

Holly managed to get us standing tickets for Manchester Arena back in July when I was in Spain. Unfortunately Holly couldn't go with me as she was meant to be staying in Liverpool but ended up getting a job in Nottingham so there was no way she could get back for work. Luckily Dan agreed to come with me.

With it being standing of course I wanted to be as close to the front as I could which meant we got to the arena to queue from 4pm. Doors was 6pm which is really early. The good thing about Manchester Arena is you can queue inside Victoria Train Station which was a life saver as it started to pour down on the way there & was freezing.

The system in there is rubbish, there was about 5 doors which you had to queue to get your ticket scanned then you had to queue again to actually get into actual venue where they take your ticket off you & give you a rubbish wrist band. (At the end the stewards had out tickets but you're not gonna get the ticket you actually paid for back). I had to hand my backpack over cos apparently you're not allowed to take bags onto the floor. Which meant we were queuing further back then where we were as we had to go somewhere else to drop it off. People were on the floor with bigger bags than me!

Furthest I've ever been at a gig. Hated it stuck behind tall people as well!!

It was weird cos there was still half an hour before the support acts were on, they made us sit on the floor!

Leah Dou

The music was too loud for Leah Dou so you couldn't really hear her. She's a Chinese girl from Beijing. Only did 3/4 songs. Was her last night on the tour.

Rationale

Loved Rationale he was so good! I only knew one song Something for nothing. But definitely a fan. It was like we came to see him, his own gig he was that good!

BΔSTILLE

Dan walked through the crowd for Flaws then ended up at the mixing desk. He also did Of The Night from the mini stage he had behind the mixing desk. I guess being quite far back wouldn't have been that bad.

It was like a workout for Of The Night Dan telling us to get down on the floor squatting then jumping up! Cos we'd been standing up for hours my legs just didn't know what to do.

Encore

Left upper tier doesn't seem so bad after all. Dan & Will sang Two Evils.

Bastille are definitely better live than they are recorded. Dan's voice is amazing live! Really liked the tv screens they had above the screen the way they played on the Wild World Communications they have & used the guy from the Fake It video. It was really is a big show than a music gig. They've put so much into making it look good with the visuals, like they've said themselves even if you don't like the music it looks pretty.

I didn't even realise when they did Two Evils from the balcony that it was the encore. I was like what that's it even though I knew the last song was going to be Pompeii (which is was). There was no confetti which I was a bit disappointed with. It was a really good gig but I didn't feel like Dan connected with the crowd as much as he has with the other nights. Maybe he was really nervous & anxious at playing Manchester Arena which he kept saying was nuts. They deserve it, they've worked hard to get where they are now.

Annoyed that they aren't coming to Liverpool as this gig cost me so much money. £36.25 for the ticket, then having to travel to & from Manchester. Having to stay over in my cousins having to travel to & back from the arena. Whilst also buying a £25 t-shirt. (Spent around £70 for this night but so worth it).

If you get the chance definitely go see Bastille!!
Come to Liverpool next time please!

They played a 22 song set with both old & new stuff from both the albums. You can see the setlist here.

All photos were taken with my Samsung Galaxy S5 phone. 136 photos, 2 of them videos not bad for me considering I usually take about 200 together with my phone & camera but all phone this time.
