Press Bros

Went to Press Bros Coffee for brunch yesterday morning with Holly. Been wanting to try there for a while as they have the best pastries - pistachio croissants! These are made by another independent The Butterholic. But it was was disappointing as didn't have any pastries in and won't have any time the new year and they didn't have any matcha for a matcha latte.

Holly wanted to have beans on toast but the sauce they put on top has dairy which she can't have so this what we ended up getting...

Holly got scrambled eggs on sourdough with bacon

They said there wasn't any dairy with the scrambled eggs but we're not convinced. There was definitely milk in it and said the bacon was quite salty.

I got the Brooklyn Eggs - Open bagel, smoked salmon, scrambled eggs, house made dill cream chees, mixed leaf, chives and basil oil - £9

So much dill! Dill overload. This cost £9 which is pricey compared to other places where I've had smoked salmon and eggs.
The eggs were nice I just can't make scrambled eggs to look anything like this and I've tried so many times just can't do it. We need to come back again when they have the pastries as the pistachio croissants look so good.

After we went for a walk around Sefton Park and I went to the gym. Eaten so much food just need to burn it all off. I've had enough of eating for now and can't be eating out any more. Christmas eating is officially over!

Penny Lane Wine Bar & Tiger Rock

Spontaneous night out for dinner last night. Last catch up before David goes back down to London. We met up at The Dog House on Penny Lane at 6:30pm where they managed to get through 2 bottles of wine then went for dinner at Tiger Rock at like 9pm. So late for dinner!

Tiger Rock

We ordered quite a lot of food and everything was veggie.

From left to right - Tofu Sumbat - Stuffed tofu with cucumber, beansprout, leek & chilli tamarind sauce
Pak Tempura - Deep fried eggplant, lotus roots, & asparagus in a light batter
Po Pia Bhet - Vegetable spring rolls

The tofu was really spicy and I'm not a fan of raw beansprouts. The tempura was really greasy.

Nasi Goreng - Veggie fried rice with fried egg & prawn crackers

Pad Thai - Veggie fried noodles

Beenk Hoi Then - Grilled scallops with asparagus

The asparagus were disappointing very skinny!

Terung Bhaji - Aubergine cooked with Malay Spices

Wasn't a fan of this even though it did taste like something my mum would make but the sauce was too curry like but worked for David as he loved it.

Gon Chau Udon - Cantonese stir fried noodles with veg

Mango Stick Rice Pudding - Pandan with mango and coconut syrup

Not a fan of rice pudding. Rice shouldn't be sweet and mushy!

Apple Spring Rolls with Coconut Ice Cream

The coconut ice cream was so nice!

I've been to Tiger Rock years ago with my cousin Sindy and the food was alright but this time the food was so salty. They were rushed off their feet as there wasn't enough floor staff. We had to ask for water 3 times as they kept forgetting to bring it over. We also got some prawn crackers to start which we inhaled as we were that hungry. We also ordered Panang Het - Sautéed button & enogi mushrooms cooked with panag sauce . David was disappointed as it's his favourite and was asking if they could just make anything with panang sauce. Lucky they didn't have it as we had well enough food.

The lighting on the table was really good for the food but not so good for a selfie!

After we went to Penny Lane Wine Bar which was nice. Not too busy

Unplanned nights are always the best!

Christmas 2021

Christmas at the Johnson's again as due to covid. Second Christmas in a row not being able to spend it at the Wing's. I did go and see my grandma with my dad in the morning and my uncle Mike, Auntie Sou-Mei and Brandon turned up. Didn't stay long as I needed to get back to get ready to go to Tracy's. I went to Tracy's with her mum and dad for 3pm.

Tracy took a different approach this year and decided to force feed us and put the food on our plate for us. I did manage to eat it all but I hate wasting food so will eat everything that is given to me. We had beef, gammon, turkey, pigs in blanket, stuffing balls, Yorkshire pudding, roast potatoes, carrots, parsnips, broccoli and sprouts. Food was really good thanks Tracy and Chris even though before we even got plated they prewarned the turkey was dry. It was better than what I had at The Florist the other night.

Amelie is old enough to eat this year and was loving it. Tracy was feeding her too slow though and was crying for more. She wasn't sure with sprouts though out of all the food.

Annual cousin Christmas photo now featuring Amelie!

Tracy bought a Chinese fruit cream cake from Bonbon Bakery which was really nice. We also had c
rème brûlée and I ate so much chocolate the only day in the year I have chocolate really.

We played the logo game and were done in with all the food we ate. Watched Amelie play with her new toys and when she got put to bed we watched on some and went to start Don't Look Up on Netflix but I ended up going home with Tracy's mum and dad so didn't end up watching it.

Up and at the gym this morning to try and burn off all the food that was eaten yesterday. Surprised the gym was open but I'm not complaining. It was quiet when I got there at 10am with familiar faces then started to get busier. For lunch today at home my dad made a roast with poussin. I am all roasted out for a good while now. Gym workouts for the foreseeable will be burning all the Christmas food!

Hope you all had a good Christmas!

Christmas Eve Eve

Last night was our annual Christmas catch up. We did something a little different this year and decided to go axe throwing at Boom Battle Bar. I was a little unsure of it as I didn't really trust myself to do it. I like the idea of it and have wanted to do it for ages but just wasn't sure it would be wise for me to hold an axe...

Boom Battle Bar

Boom Battle Bar is by St John's down the side where Sainsbury's. It's a bar that has all different games - Bavarian Axe Throwing, Crazier Golf, Augmented Reality Darts, American Pool, Shuffleboard Beer Pong.

We turned up and it was dead no-one in there just staff. They said they were waiting for us and once we're done they're shutting. We had to sign a waiver then a guy showed us how to do it. I went first and showed me how to hold the axe in one hand then take one step forward and throw. It was quite hard when the guy showed me he didn't hit the target. Then David went next and he got shown one hand, then Danielle, Hannah and Kelly but the 3 of them got shown to do it with two hands. He said to me next round he would show me two hands but if you do that you have to take two steps then throw. I wasn't any better doing two hands.

I managed to hit the target a few times but I think it only stuck once or twice and I got the most goes as everyone else was getting the hang of it better than I was. There was 3 different axes which I think were different weights but they didn't make any difference to me or help.

We had a few practice rounds then played a game for points which was pointless having different points at different parts of the board cos just hitting the target is enough points as I didn't manage to get it to stick in the target once so that was me out of the game!

The actual axe throwing was fun but there bar was dire - there was no atmosphere at all as it was just us and luckily we did book to do axe throwing and not anything else in there otherwise it would have been really bad.

After we went to the Butterfly and Grasshopper pub where Secret Santa happened. I finally got to sit it out this year and didn't participate but did get a mini baguette which is now the tradition but ended up leaving it in Danielle's giftbag so she now has it!

The Florist

For dinner we went to The Florist. I've been meaning to try there and just never ended up going.

We were sat upstairs and there was a big table that looked like a work party.

Food was pretty slow and I was hungry. We booked the table for 7:30pm but didn't get up going there till near 8pm I think it was and we didn't get our food till 8:30pm. We all got the hanging kebabs

Danielle & Kelly both got the
Salt and Pepper Pork Belly with Bang Bang Sauce

David got the
Crispy Halloumi with Sweet Chilli Glaze and Garlic Oil

Hannah got the
Chicken served with Garlic Oil

I got
Turkey and All The Trimmings - with orange and cranberry glaze, served with roast potatoes, sprouts, kale, root veg mash and gravy

The guy said they didn't have any turkey left so I said could I have chicken with all the trimmings instead but then when the food came I did end up getting turkey! The turkey was SO dry! I shouldn't have poured the gravy along the top should have left it to dip/drown the turkey in. The pigs in blankets were good though. I didn't taste the orange and cranberry glaze though and didn't even realise there was any till now writing this post..

Lemon Tart - with raspberry sorbet and crushed honeycomb

Raspberry and Almond Frangipane Tart - with non-dairy vanilla ice cream and raspberry coulis

Chocolate Orange Cookie Dough - with vanilla ice cream

Me and Danielle shared the lemon and the frangipane tart. They were both really good. David and Kelly both also got the frangipane tart and Hannah got the cookie dough.

We left at 10pm and were the last people in there. Everywhere was dead - covid really is keeping people in. Even in town and in Primark it was no where near as busy as it usually is.

Really is an Instragramer and blogger's dream place to go as it's so pretty. I did think it was more a style over substance place but the food was good and was pleasantly surprised. Service needed to be sped up a bit but it wasn't bad. After they went to the Philharmonic pub but I went straight home as I was working today and needed to fit an early gym session before work.

Hope you have a good Christmas which still isn't what we all hoped and wanted. Madness how this time last year we thought this would be well over but here we are over and done with it. Hopefully things do get better and we get some normality soon!
