This is a post mainly of food when I went to Shajing where my grandma and uncle lives in China - It's a town within Shenzhen which is the main city. We didn't really do much while we were there other than eat out most nights with different groups of my mum's friends.
The view from my little cousin's bedroom window. The last time I went in 2016 it wasn't as built up as this.
Just taking their chicken for a walk around the block...
Building a water park round the corner. Will defo be open if I ever go back
Considering the floor space in my grandma's flat is bigger than what we have here in the UK I ended up sleeping on the windowsill with a crap "mattress". Part of the reason I couldn't wait to come home and just sleep in my own bed!
The first night we went out for food with a group of my mum's friends and this is the selection of food that was ordered
Steamed chicken
Sea snails Gavin ordered
Oysters in batter
Oysters
Garlic oysters - one of my mum's friend farms oysters and brought her own to the restaurant for them to cook. You have to pay for it to be cooked which is made. Imagine that happening here! Just bringing your own ingredients to be cooked...
Shrimps
Oyster overload and it doesn't stop there as oyster is what you eat in Shajing - what my mum's family used to do.
The next morning grandma treated us to yan ta dim sum
Cheung fan
Chicken feet
The pink is the same as cheung fun then the inside was prawn in batter
Grandma has pig's liver and likes white chicken feet - not a fan of white chicken feet!
Lava custard bao
Egg tarts
2 ice creams in Burger King for ¥7 (around 70p!)
Dinner we had in my grandma's cooked by my auntie and roast goose.
These foods trucks only appear in the night
I went out for a walk on my own after dinner and stumbled on this food festival that was happening that was down the road from my grandma's
You could win actual live animals... rabbits, chicks and chicks. All you had to do was throw the hoop around the animal you wanted! The poor animals were caged in tiniest boxes. If this was in the UK you would have been arrested!
I took mum, dad and Gavin down the next day to the festival.
This was a really fancy expensive meal that was wasted on us as we just didn't appreciate it with a different group of mum's friends - This was massive group of people
Sea snails
Soup with sort of sea things (?!)
Duck foot and abalone - not a fan
Also not a fan of these small crabs
Fish
Some root veg
Steak on onions
Oysters
Salt & pepper oysters
Some root veg
Bak choy
Fried rice
Veg
Choi sum
Out with different friends for dinner...
Some mini bird
Chinese soup with lotus root and meat
Tofu
Veg
Fish
These were free - egg tarts and char siu baos
Pig intestines
Fried rice
Roast goose soup noodles
Chicken feet and different dim sums
Cheung fan rolls with a sweet peanut sauce and it was also spicy!
Then out for dinner with friends we'd seen before
Roast goose
Some sea shells
Eel
Like Portuguese tarts but with short crust pastry
You can buy baos and they're so cheap 30p each for a massive char siu bao!
Seafood noodles
This ice cream was so cheap but I can[t remember exactly how much it was but only realised it was downstairs grandma's on the last day. Which I guess was a good thing otherwise I would have got it everyday.
Matcha Hong Kong bubble waffle
Crushed as my mum's mate was fighting me to buy it. She did end up paying for it. It was alright but defo better if it was white chocolate.
Uncle paid for me and Gavin to go go-karting one day.
There was a random sucking pig there
Park up in the mountains up the road from go-karting
Park nearby
Dinner on the flight home - Stir-fried beef with pepper celery, mushroom steamed rice. Wanted the chicken but cos was sat right at the back of the plane they had none left by the time it got to me
Breakfast - Braised noodles, beef, cabbage, carrot, long bean
Food was crap the food on the way there was better but plane food is never good.
Basically a food diary of when I went to Shajing because we didn't actually do anything while we were there. We did stuff when we went to different parts so there is a few more China posts to come! Annoying as I'm sure on the last night I seen Maccies were doing matcha soft serve ice cream!
