Forbidden City

On our last full day in Beijing my dad booked us to go to the Forbidden City - this needs to be pre booked online but you don't pay till you get there.

I was up awake at 5am as I couldn't stop coughing and got up at 6am. We went out for breakfast at 8am at our usual spot next to the hotel.

Got our usual baos, gyoza, dough stick, sesame bun with lotus paste and mum got silken tofu. After we went back to the hotel to book us a taxi to the tube station. We go the tube to Tiananmen Square.

Security was so tight. There was a queue and people just don't know how to queue just diving and weaving to jump it. Then you had to get your bag checked and fully body scanned. I had a water bottle they checked that and made my drink it. Once security was all sorted we could go through. Was a nice day with perfect blue skies but was cold.

So the day before when we came we didn't think you could get up close but you can because at this point we didn't need to say we were going to the Forbidden City.

When you walk through these gates is when you go to get your tickets. Tickets were again cheap only a couple of pounds can't remember exactly how much as you give your passport and your passport number is you ticket. Dad again got to go for free as he was over 60.

The queues were massive and you had to go through security checks again for your bag and metal detectors etc.

There were thousands of people - don't think I'd seen this many people in one place and the complex is huge! All mainly Chinese people only a handful that weren't Chinese.

It was annoying as again you couldn't get up close or inside of anywhere. A lot of the buildings were also closed.

You had to get separate tickets for Treasure Gallery - again over 60s are free.

Mad to think thousands of years ago the who complex was the home to emperors like how much money and power they had! It was such a long day we were there form 11am - 4pm. We wanted to go back to where we were the day before to the Temple of Heaven but we just didn't have the time. We got the tube back and went for dinner at a restaurant by the hotel.

I got wonton noodles and asked for it to not be spicy but clearly didn't listen and it was SO spicy I couldn't eat it and the wontons had a wear taste.

I ended up eating the rice and broccoli from Gavin's meal because he didn't want it.

Our last night in Beijing as we had breakfast the next morning then had a flight to catch to go down to Shenzhen to stay with my grandma and uncle.
