Grease

Went to see Grease with Tracy and grandma last night at the Empire Theatre. It was our Christmas present to grandma for her first ever trip to the theatre. We went to Tai Pan for dinner first - Not been here for years. They were shut for a bit due to hygiene and reopened.

We got 2 main dishes - seafood udon noodles - it was SO salty. I was thirsty all night and the portion was tiny. 3 meat roast (duck, crispy pork & char siu) on the bone with rice - with giant bits of Chinese leaf
4 dim sum - har gau, crispy prawn parcels with mayonnaise, chicken feet and got char siu churn fan (not pictured) - it was really dry and cold like it'd been left out for ages.

Food wasn't great and came to just under £55. Mei Mei is definitely better and where I've been going the only thing is there's no parking as it's in central town.

After we parked outside the library to go to the Empire.

Tracy asked these random Asian guys to take our photo - this has been cropped so much as it was mainly just sky!

Our seats were so good - so central

It was the first night so there was some teething issues - sound wasn't great on some of the cast as their mic were too loud and the props department weren't having a good time! It was good they did all the main well known songs but was weird because the guys weren't called the T-Birds.

Grandma thought it finished when it was the interval. Think she was ready to go home and said it was too loud! She's so hard to buy for as she doesn't want or need anything and has no hobbies - so think we just have to get her out the house to try different things.

Matcha White Chocolate Cookies

Think I've finally mastered how to make the perfect cookies! Think the secret is Dark Muscovado sugar - the recipe says light brown sugar but this was the only sugar we had in so I just went for it and it worked!

Ingredients:

125g Unsalted Butter, softened
(Take it out over night)
100g Dark Muscovado Sugar
100g Caster/White Sugar
1 Egg
1 Tsp Vanilla Extract
225g Self Raising Flour
½ Tsp Salt
1 Tbsp Matcha Powder
100g White Chocolate

What you need:

Mixing Bowl
2 Bowls
Wooden Spoon
Measuring Spoons
Sieve
Electric Whisk
Fork
Flat Baking Trays
Baking Paper

Oven 180°C

Baking time 7-8 minutes

Method:

Make sure you take your butter out the night before so it's nice and soft and mix it with the 2 sugars with the wooden spoon first - as the Muscovado sugar is quite dry and lumpy stops it flying everywhere. Then when it partly mixed you can use your electric whisk until it turns pale and creamy. Use your wooden spoons to check the consistency.

In a little bowl beat your egg and vanilla with a fork.

Once they has been mixed you can pour it into your mixture and using your electric whisk, whisk until well mixed. Then use your wooden spoon again to check.

Then sift your flour, salt and matcha powder in and mix it together with your wooden spoon. Add the chocolate then use the electric whisk until well combined using the wooden spoon to check consistency.

Once your chocolate has been mixed in roll your dough into balls and place them onto your lined trays.

Bake in the oven for 7-8 minutes.

Leave them to cool on the tray for a minute or two then transfer onto a wire rack.

We'll see tomorrow whether they stay chewy.. But definitely a lot more like the cookies I've been trying to bake for years! Soft and chewy consistency.

Sunday Eats

AKA Sushi - Bold Street, Liverpool

Back in early April for an early birthday meal for Jo's birthday at AKA Sushi on Bold Street

Sushi Set A (16 pcs) - 3 Salmon sashimi, 3 tuna sashimi, 3 salmon nigiri, 3 tuna nigiri, 4 salmon rolls & seaweed salad - £18.99
Rainbow Roll - Salmon, tuna, seabass, crabstick, avocado & cucumber - £12.99
Chicken gyoza (6 pcs) - £6.99
Seaweed salad - £4.50

Beef ramen - £9.99

Salt & pepper chicken - £7.50

Tonkatsu crispy pork - £7

Sushi was good as always! Not a fan of the gyoza anymore prefer when they used to do it steamed rather than fried. Shouldn't have got the salt& pepper chicken - got it last time for my birthday and it was just dry and fatty bits of chicken. Jacob got the tonkatsu crispy pork his favourite thing to get - it's nice but really dry.

We were supposed to go to Big Bowl Noodle which I still haven't tried but ended up in our favourite place AKA Sushi as always!

Ring Sushi Hotfood - Chortlon, Manchester

The week after I went to visit Kelly in Manchester which also happened to be Manchester Marathon day which was a bad idea as the main road out of her house was the last mile of the race! So was a nightmare to get near her house and park up. But I made it eventually. We went for dinner at this sushi place Ring Sushi Hotfood which was down the road from where she lives in Chorlton

Chicken gyoza (4 pcs) - £4.80

Gave us prawn crackers. The gyozas weren't that nice

Sushi platter (28 pcs) - Nigiri, hosomaki, California maki, salmon sashimi - £30

The sushi was alright not the best I've had - the fish didn't seem that fresh. The place was dead there was only 1 family when we arrived then another table turned up when we were leaving. Was just this one guy who looked like he was the server and the chef making the food! It was pretty quick like we didn't wait long for the food but we were over charged which I didn't realise till I got back to Liverpool. The bill came to £40 but the only other thing we got was Kelly's diet coke so no way that was like £6 odd! It was weird as it was cash only or bank transfer and they didn't take card. Wouldn't recommend or go again

I finally met Trigg Kelly and Josh's dog properly. 1.5 year old German wirehaired pointer. He is massive and really well behaved.

Pierre Griffes - Allerton Road, Liverpool

Went to lunch with Danielle today on Allerton Road. Was meant to be another sushi lunch but it just wasn't meant to be as the 2 sushi restaurants weren't open! 2 new ones opened up but one doesn't open Sunday's and the other doesn't open till 4pm so that was a let down. We ended up going a really random place Pierre Griffes French cafe bistro

Danielle

Smoked salmon, scrambled egg on toasted croissant - £10.99

Smoked salmon omelette (no cheese) - £10.99

Wasn't expecting my omelette to come with toast or salad. The omelette was alright a bit burnt - was massive and definitely not what I had in mind that I was going to have for lunch today but we were put on the spot a bit as the guy came over to take our order and I said we needed a couple more minutes then he came back and said the kitchen was closing so if we wanted food we needed to order now so I kinda panicked. The other option was eggs royal. When we walked in he should have said they were doing last orders and that they were shutting soon and we probably would have went somewhere else.

After we walked down to Dovedale Road to Laura's Deli and Wine and I got a pistachio matcha latte which is a game changer. It was SO nice my new favourite drink - all matcha lattes should have pistachio in it! Danielle got an iced matcha, coconut and vanilla latte. The vanilla was really strong and couldn't taste the matcha. Did taste like eating a cake.

Will eventually try the 2 new sushi places on Allerton Road and catch them when they're open. Strange how no-where was open even though it was a bank holiday and the weather was so nice today so they were definitely losing out.
