Heraklion

Day 4 - Heraklion, Crete

This was probably the worst day out of the cruise as it just rained all day really bad. We had breakfast and waited for the rain to stop as the port of Heraklion is a working port that is full of container ships you have to get a shuttle bus to the terminal to leave.

The shuttle bus ran every 20 minutes. The rain eventually stopped but when we got to the terminal it was torrential rain absolutely pouring down, so we just had to wait for it to stop.

It was a 20 minute walk into the city. There was a bus you could get but we wanted to walk. It eventually stopped after like 10 minutes. We had to take shelter a couple of times in bus stops and random places for the rain to die down a bit before we could carry on walking.

I’ve been to Heraklion before back in April 2015 with my cousins Sindy and Jess. It looks so much nicer in the sun than in the horrible wet miserable cold. We went to the centre where there’s all high street shops like Zara and H&M.

Venetian Fort

How much nicer it looks in the sun!

This is the main centre - lion square.

Then we went to what looked like a Christmas market just to have a wander round but it started to absolutely pour down again but it was really windy so we had to take shelter in a gazebo which wasn’t great as because it was so windy we were getting wet anyway. It was horrible I was sending videos to everyone back at home and it wasn’t even raining back at home! We were under the gazebo for ages but when it eventually stopped we walked back to the terminal to get the shuttle bus back to the ship.

We had lunch in the buffet restaurant. I thought the paella was alright and edible and so was the vegetable enchilada.

Frog or crab? My dad thought it was a cat.. What cat looks like this?!
After we just went back to the room to chill. Me and my dad went back up to the restaurant as they do afternoon tea where there’s scones, sausage rolls, cakes and biscuits.

Then we went for dinner.

Smoked salmon

Chicken, veg and gravy. The chicken was so dry even with the gravy which was basically brown water.
After we went to see the evening show.

Day 4 was boring as it was the day at sea where it was just a detox day really as being at sea meant I couldn’t use my phone as there’s no WiFi. As the ship was tiny there was nothing to do on it. I just went to the gym which I thought would have been busy but it wasn’t the best idea I had as you could feel the boat moving it wasn’t a great workout. Which will explain why it was empty. We just wandered round the ship all day and ate really.
Next stop Haifa - Jerusalem.
