THE KILLERSEmirates Old Trafford - ManchesterSaturday 11th June 2022
Finally got to see The Killers on the Imploding the Mirage Tour on Saturday! I bought tickets back in November 2019 and was meant to happen in May 2020 but then Covid happened and it got postponed to June 2021 and then eventually to Saturday 11th June 2022. It was meant to be a tour for the one album Imploding The Mirage but thanks to Covid we go 2 new albums with Pressure Machine coming out last year which is why the name for the tour hasn't changed. It was worth the wait because it was amazing. Brandon just gets better and better and his confidence now compared to when I first saw him and it was definitely an eventful gig as so much happened. You will have seen on the news and social media about Billy aka real name Doug - 67 year old pensioner who crowd surfed and got dropped which caught Brandon's attention as he stopped part way starting Shadowplay to get off stage to check he was ok! It also got stopped later on as people were fighting so Brandon called them out to separate.
The venue felt smaller than the last time I went to see back in 2018 at Bolton Macron Stadium. The seats were also facing the wrong way to the stage. So even if you were by the stage your couldn't be sat in your seat as you wouldn't be watching anything other than the crowd. Security was bad as people were taking flares and smoking weed so they just weren't checking people properly.
BLOSSOMS
Blossoms are an English band from Stockport who were the support. I knew some of their songs as they get played on the radio and I've listened to their albums. I also kind of met Tom the lead singer when I went to the West Ham Watford game when I was last down in London. They were really good and everyone was loving them. Not everyone knew who they were but after people were saying how good they were and would listen to them. They had to stop mid way through their set as someone had to get pulled out cos they looked like they were going to pass out. They played about an hour so we did get to properly get to know them.
THE KILLERS
"You're too important for me to leave without saying thank you"
Loved the visuals and stage set up for this. They really made use of the big screen behind them and the album art for Imploding The Mirage. I will never get bored of seeing them live. They played a 22 song set but now there's 7 albums and possibly another album coming next year with a tour that's a lot of songs to try and fit into a short space of time. Trying to juggle the old classics as well as slotting in the new stuff. They only played 2 songs from the newest album Pressure Machine and 4 from Imploding the Mirage. Rut segue from Wonderful Wonderful and Runaways from Battle Born then the rest were from the first 3. They played a different set at the other dates and I wished they played The Man but they did play Shot At The Night again which definitely belongs in the set. Not a fan of the Jacques Lu Cont start for Mr Brightside but it's always the crowd pleaser to finish on. Runaway Horses (Pressure Machine) and Midnight Show (Hot Fuss) were on the set list but didn't get played but I think this might have been because of the stops they didn't have the time to fit them in.
You can see the set list here. Can't wait to see them again!
