Day 2 of being a tourist in Paris our last full day. We left the hotel at 9am and did our morning stock up of breakfast and snacks in Lidl.
Last ice double ice cream for breakfast! Weather wise was probably the best out of the 4 days we were there so the ice cream was definitely justified.
We got the train to the Palace of Versailles. We had to get the train to one of the main stations then change but the first train we got they kept making announcements in French and people were getting off and panicking we had no idea what was going on then after a couple of stops we all had to get off. Then we had to get onto another train and were packed like sardines. We couldn't get a seat and had to stand for so many stops until people were getting off. We eventually got Versailles which was really nice.
There was a Maccies so we had to get a final ice cream for the trip since we don't have cones no more back in the UK and they do waffle cones too!
Palace of Versailles
We didn't have tickets and the queue was really long. I managed to buy tickets on my phone and could skip the queue and go straight in. Tickets were €19,50 (£16.83)
The palace is huge!
The gardens are bigger than the grounds. We only got the tickets for the palace and not the garden package. There was just too many different ticket combinations you could buy. Tickets for the garden was €10 on their own you could get but I wanted to see the Mona Lisa so we left it and headed back into Paris.
We got the train back into Paris and got the metro straight to the Louvre Museum for take 2. When we got there I booked tickets on my phone and could go straight in. Tickets are €17 (£14.65)
Louvre Museum
Weather was so much nicer than the day before - our photos did not look like this!
It is huge inside. Didn't realise how big it was when we got the map that there were so many floors and rooms you can go to. We got there before 4pm and it shuts at 6pm so we went straight to see the Mona Lisa - as that was really the only thing we wanted to see and didn't know how busy it was going to be.
The Mona Lisa is in a room on her own and wasn't what I was expecting...
It was chaos just people in the room. I thought it was a queuing system but no you just had to push your way through to the front of the people. There was 2 security guards in front of her and a rope.
The picture is tiny. Thought it was bigger.
Then we went back and went round the rest of the museum.
So much pointing!
After we looked for a place for dinner - we walked to a restaurant that did snails but didn't have frogs legs and the waiter was really good he told us there was one round the corner called Royal Opera that did both snails and frogs legs.
Snails in garlic sauce - This was what I expected it to be like. Like seafood texture and wasn't too bad
Frogs legs - Tasted like Chinese salt and pepper chicken. Wasn't much meat but the proper thigh muscles from all the jumping!
Smoked salmon salad with avocado, salad leaves, cherry tomatoes, prawns and grape fruit.
Duck leg
Made our own a la carte meal - Sent this to everyone and they believed us! Ha
Jo surprised me and got me a crème brûlée for my birthday. She used Google translate on her phone to tell him. I didn't even know she did it when she went to the toilet. They gave me a profiterole that was really nice had hazelnut filling.
Don't know what was so funny..
Weird the crème brûlée was cold again! Must be the way they have it in France but I like it hot!
After dinner we got the metro to Notre Dame
Notre Dame Cathedral
We then got the metro to the Eiffel Tower but waited ages for one to come
Eiffel Tower at night
Flash didnt' really work!
Every hour it flashes - so we seen it happen when we were down right by it at 10pm then it did it again when we went up to Trocadero at 11pm. It looks pretty at night and even more busy than in the day. We did see loads of rats as well. Then we got the train back to the hotel.
Completed Paris and manged to do everything I wanted on my list of touristy things. The next day our flight was at 3:30pm so didn't have time to really do anything in the morning but did have a look at the shopping centre next to Val D'Europe train station and and because of that ended up missing the quick train that would have got us to the airport in 15 mins. Ended up having to fork €93,55 between us for a taxi there!
This was under ice cream on the menu on the touch screens in Maccies but it was crap was like a sorbet/frozen yoghurt thing. This Maccies didn't have cones which is why I tried this but was disappointed.
Our flight was scheduled for 3:35pm but we didn't get onto the plane till 3:55pm. Took off at 4:26pm and landed at 4:35pm half an hour later. The flight was full but when we went to the toilet the back row was full and asked if we could sit there and they said it was fine. We waited ages to get our bags when we landed.
Paris completed off to China for 3 weeks so plenty to blog from that that will definitely run into next year probably!
