Pasta Making in Florence

For my birthday Holly got me a pasta making class which we chose to do on my actual birthday. It was at this restaurant which was on the other side of the river which we hadn't been to yet.

We walked to Maccies to get breakfast. I got an ice cream and we got croissants - pistachio and what I thought was custard - turns out it was lemon curd. They looked alright but they weren't good but they did the job. Ice cream was also really icy.

We were booked on the 10am class and there was 80 people in 3 different rooms. Wasn't expecting there to be that many people. We were in the main room with the head chef Lorenzo think the others were Su Chefs.

We made tortellini, ravioli and pappardelle. We used the same filling for the tortellini and ravioli - a cheese filling. I wasn't very good at it couldn't fold the right shape but it was ok because everyone's pasta just got thrown in to the pan to cook.

He made 3 different sauces for the pasta

Tortellini - Butter and sage sauce

Ravioli - Tomato sauce

Pappardelle - Ragu sauce

The pasta was really nice. The ragu sauce was my favourite. Enjoyed it but definitely won't be making my own pasta at home even though it's so much nicer than dried pasta. Just too much effort and mess to make at home.

It was just under 3 hours the class. Got fed and had drinks. There was wine, fizzy drinks and water. Surprised people weren't drinking the wine but it was early. There was people from all different places doing the class.

After we walked up the viewpoint Piazzale Michelangelo. It was so hot we were sweating walking up hill. The hottest day so far.

The Palace

Gelato stop back over the bridge

Santa Croce

We went into the cathedral museum which was part of our tickets we had only because we needed the toilet so went for a wonder

Went to the record store pub

Got a matcha gelato which was good and refreshing. Wish I got one earlier but didn't even think!

Wandered round a bit. Went to a different wine window that had chairs facing the back of the cathedral.

We went back to the hotel to shower and go out for dinner. Went to the restaurant Sindy and co went to the night before.

Holly got steak

Grilled veg - courgette, artichoke, aubergine and peppers

Potato wedges - they were burnt

I got the lobster pasta

I wasn't getting tomato sauce on my new white outfit! I wanted to wear it for pasta making but then was scared I would get it dirty.

Tiramisu

Trattoria dall'oste - we booked through Tripadvisor and got 20% off the food. If we booked it for an hour earlier could have got 30% off. The food was nice but was pricey.

Walked around then went back to the hotel for our last night.

We had to get up at 6am to get the tram to the bus station. Got the 7:50am bus to Pisa airport. We were 3 hours early again but the only bus we could get. We were there that early that Holly couldn't check her case in yet and we couldn't get through to security. Once you're through security there's nothing and even is just penned in in a really small area. The gates are just there. Luckily our gate was out the way. Seen Sindy and co as their flight was an our before ours.

Also bumped into Tom from Blossoms who was on Sindy's flight. No-one recognised him though. Asked him for a photo and told him I seen him when they supported The Killers at Old Trafford Cricket Ground a few years ago. Was meant to see Blossoms in Sefton Park for Radio 1's Big Weekend in May but sold my tickets because the weather was really bad.

That's the end of the Italy trip! A great week and feels like so long ago. Still so many more cities and towns to visit in Italy which I will hopefully be able to do soon!
