Aka Sushi

Straight from the airport, quick change on Sunday night for my birthday meal at Aka Sushi on Bold Street with my second family. Our flight was delayed and landed 1 hr 40 minutes later than scheduled but we were lucky to come back as if we were on the flight back yesterday we would have been stuck in Athens. Not complaining as I'd love to have had more time there as 2 days weren't enough and a free holiday but that's another post when I get round to it!

We ordered a few different bits and just shared it all

102 Set B (20 pcs) - 3 salmon sashimi, 3 tuna sashimi, 3 salmon nigiri, 3 tuna nigiri, 4 salmon rolls, 4 tuna rolls, seaweed salad and edamame - £21.99

The first time I tried here it was called Naked Noodle for my birthday with Jo in 2020 when they did the help out to eat out and food was half price. We got the Set C 28 pcs and was really good. This was just as good and was enough. It was fresh and just what I needed as I hadn't eaten since 8:30am in the morning as the flight was in the afternoon so I didn't have any lunch.

66 Rainbow Roll - salmon, tuna, seabass, crabstick, avocado and cucumber - £12.99

2 Salt and Pepper Chicken - £7.50

I think every time I've been here I've got the rainbow roll as it has both salmon and tuna.

I wasn't fussed over the salt and pepper chicken but Rich wanted it.

1 Chicken Gyoza (6 pcs) - £6.99

18 Tonkatsu Crispy Pork (Deep fried pork cutlet) - £7

The gyoza wasn't as good as I've had in the past. The pastry seemed different.

The pork was good but was a bit dry could have done with some sauce to go with it.

105 Salmon Bento Box - Salmon filet, rice, deep fried chicken pieces, salmon sashimi, seaweed salad, mixed leaf salad - £11.99

Jacob got the bento box and I tried the salmon which wasn't what I was expecting. The salmon was in like a crispy tofu skin with teriyaki sauce. It was nice but I was expecting just pieces of salmon which I would have preferred if I got this box.

The not so surprise birthday cake as I seen them carry it in. There were going to get there before me with the cake and balloons but they ended up picking me up so that ruined the surprise but I still got my birthday balloons.

Still milking this 30th with more posts to come...

Thanks for dinner Jo and Rich!

Koyo

For my birthday meal Kelly took me to a new sushi restaurant that opened just at the end of lockdown down the road from where she lives. When we got there Kelly gave her name as she booked a table and the guy was like from Newcastle? We were like nope Liverpool which was really awkward as he is from Newcastle so then decided to tell every customer about his awkward story introducing us as "Julie and Kelly from Newcastle not Liverpool". He was a character for sure.

The menu was good and took a while to pick what to get!

Omega 3 - Sashimi grade Atlantic salmon, 6 salmon maki, 4 baby salmon maki, 5 salmon sushi, 4 salmon rolls - £8.40

Tuna Dynamite Roll - 6 pieces of spicy line caught tuna under a crunchy blanket - £6.30

Crab Uramaki - 6 crab and avocado pieces wrapped in Japanese originated rice seaweed and sesame seeds - £4.75

Gyoza Chicken Noodles - Slurping udon noodles, pumpkin seeds, chicken gyoza and Asian slaw - £10

Little Moons Mochi - Matcha green tea and coconut - £1.50 each

The sushi was really good. The salmon was my favourite and the tuna wasn't even spicy. Didn't even realise it was meant to be spicy until I wrote this post up and it says "spicy tuna". Service was super quick as soon as we ordered the food it came straight out. We ordered the first 2 plates of sushi first then ordered the crab, then decided we could still eat and ordered the noodles all to share.

Finally jumped on the hyped and tried "Little Moons Mochi" as they're sold out everywhere. I don't think they're anything special, just the same as every other mochi. It was a good finish to the end of the meal with my favourite matcha!

Really enjoyed the sushi and recommend if you have to be in the area! The only thing was we were sat on the bar on stools, would have preferred to sit in a booth but I get because there was only 2 of us they were saved for bigger parties.

Thanks for the birthday meal Kelly!

La Tasca

Last night we went to La Tasca for dinner as it's my brother's birthday today. We didn't get there till nearly 8 as it was super last minute & I had to wait for me to get ready as I went the gym straight from work. The shortest gym session ever was only there for 30 minutes then had to rush home to wash my hair & shower. Got to the restaurant & realised I hadn't even washed the conditioner out my hair properly.

La Tasca was dead only 3 other tables when we got there.

We got the large calamares, slow cooked pork cheeks, boquerones (white anchovies marinated in olive oil), paella Valencia La Tasca (chicken breast, mussels, king prawn & squid) & fritas.

By the time we got our food it was 9. Wasn't even hungry by this time, more like bed time for me.
The portions were tiny - I know it's meant to be tapas but the large calamares? How small must the small be?? They didn't even look like squid rings they looked like tiny onion rings, the chips looked awful & the anchovies?? Just looked like they've opened a tin & put them on a plate!

The paella was actually alright - nothing on the one I had in Spain though.

Students get 25% off with Unidays from Sunday - Friday so it wasn't too bad but I probably wouldn't be going again & wouldn't recommend the food we ordered apart from the paella!

Las Iguanas

Ear Chain - Topshop
Skirt - Zara
Heeled Boots - Zara
Bag - Marc B from Topshop

Last night I went to Las Iguanas for Bobbi from work's 25th birthday. It was actually her birthday last weekend but she was in Paris for it (so jealous) so we all went out last night. The table was booked for 8:30 as Laura & Lillie were in work till 7:30. But they got there a lot earlier than the rest of them! There was 12 of us but we didn't end up eating till about 10! We were starving but by the time we ordered we weren't even hungry any more! Also who eats at 10?! I don't eat after 8!

Me, Laura & Becky shared nachos & chicken fajitas.

The bill came to over £300 for the 12 of us but there was an optional service charge of £30. We just ended up putting £1/2 in each for a tip instead. Service wasn't exactly anything special. The food was also alright not the best I've had so it wasn't worth the service charge.

It was nice to catch up with everyone out of work & to be dressed up. Me, Lillie, Laura & Devin didn't stay out. The others went into town & from the photos looks like they had a really good time! I would've liked to have stayed out but I was too tired & was up early today so there was no way I could've partied with them sadly. I definitely need a night out soon though. It seems to be all work & no play lately :(

Don't know if you've noticed but I've got a new phone! I've now got the Samsung Galaxy S5 so the photos should be better.
