Burano

Day 2 in Venice we took the 10:15am ferry to Burano which is an island about 45 minutes away. It cost us €19 return. We just got the ferry from the terminal. The last ferry there is at like 5pm because basically there isn't anything there really and they probably don't go in the dark.

They asked if we had a mask when we were boarding and I didn't end up wearing mine as I was sticking my head out the window and didn't get why you had to wear a mask as the ferry was all open anyway so there was plenty of fresh air circulating. The ferry stops at 2 or 3 other locations before it gets to Burano which is the last stop.

Lido - This is where Venice film festival is held which happened to be the week before we went

Burano is famous for its colourful buildings and lace making

It also has a leaning tower!

We spent more time getting to the island than we did on the actual island as there is nothing to do there. It's tiny - just has bakeries, tourist shops, restaurants and a market. People only really go to see the colourful buildings but we were saying the people that live there must have to get the ferry to Venice to work unless they do work in one of the above or it's a retirement island. As you really couldn't make a living there. It's a cute little island but you couldn't live there as there's no supermarket or anywhere to get groceries. Actually we did see a fruit and veg store packing up but that was it.

There are 3 islands to visit - Lido, Murano and Torcello. Think Lido would be a good island to visit and would be stuff to do as it looks bigger. You can get tours to visit each island.
