Dan and Lauren's Wedding

Saturday 8th October 2022

Went to my good mate Dan and Lauren's wedding at Broakoaks Country House in Windermere last Saturday with Holly as my plus 1.

I drove us up to Windermere which took about 1 hour 40 minutes and there was no traffic, was an easy drive up there. Got there for 1pm and got changed to actually look like we were attending a wedding. We were suppose to be seated for 2pm for the ceremony to start at 2:30pm but it didn't start till near 3pm. They were really slow at setting things up. The ceremony was super quick just vows and that was it - perfect wedding without all the boring stuff going on!

Loved this little booklet. Such a good idea.

The venue was really nice and was a nice day with the odd annoying rain shower.
After the ceremony we went to check into our room and freshened up

Our room was massive and we had a jacuzzi which was super deep. You had to use that step to get into it otherwise it was a big drop! Apparently the toilet seat was recycled from the Ritz and The Beatles could have sat on it which is what the framed thing says above the toilet roll. The sink wasn't practical - was tiny and super low down - basically kneeling on the floor to use it.

Dan gate crashed our photoshoot

All angles covered photoshoot!
I looked like I was part of Lauren's bridal party as her bridesmaids had really nice long green dresses that I would have wore! (I was looking for a long green dress as well so would have definitely looked like a bridesmaid if did) I fully fitted into the theme of the wedding unintentionally.

We were suppose to be seated at 4:30pm for dinner to start at 5pm but as we were in the same room as the ceremony they were super slow at switching it over so were seated near 5pm and everyone was starving.

It was a hog roast with stuffing, cracking, roasted veg, roast potatoes, stuffed peppers with cous cous and you could have it in a bun, salad, coleslaw which I didn't have. It was badly missing gravy as there was no sauce was so dry. They had apple sauce and like mustard but really couldn't get our head round where was the gravy?! Like the food was nice but missing the gravy.

Yes Lauren for the ice cream cones! There was a choice of vanilla or strawberry which were melting so quickly. I had 2 ice creams as there was loads left over was going to get a third and try the strawberry but they took them away before I could get back up. I was on an ice cream ban after Italy and said I would have ice cream after Dan's wedding or at the wedding and they didn't disappoint!

Holly got a brownie which was Dan's choice with dairy free ice cream.

After the meal there were speeches from Lauren's dad, Dan and one of Dan's best men. Then we were kicked out the room again so they could get it ready for the evening bit.

The cake cutting and first dance was suppose to be at 8pm but it was closer to 8:30pm. They were really bad at changing the room over so there was just a lot of waiting around and with no where really to go as the bar was a tiny room, and there was a drawing room but that wasn't big enough for everyone to sit in. The wedding wasn't even that big around 50 people so you definitely wouldn't be able to have a big wedding there.

Cake was like Victoria Sponge with white chocolate icing, was nice.

Lauren looked amazing - her dress had pockets which definitely would have been the main selling point to pick the dress! I'd be sold with that.
We failed at getting a photo with Dan and Lauren.

Dan didn't know what the first dance song was Lauren chose it so it was it was a surprise for everyone on what it was going to be. I can't remember what it was but it did remix into Guardians of the Galaxy where star lord dances on his own. During dinner the playlist was questionable... Dan chose all mad instrumentals like Star Wars, Pokemon, Scooby Doo, Friends and more while in between Lauren chose normal songs which I can't remember because they were taken over by Dan's crazy mix!

We went outside and got sparklers. After we went back into that room for the evening dances. We got an evening snack at 9pm - chicken goujons and chips - along with the wedding cake. Wasn't even hungry and was just eating because it was there!

Me and Holly took over the dance floor. As the first couple of songs were requests that people had put through for the playlist then there was a jukebox where you could choose your own songs. Having a juke box is such a good day it's better than having a DJ. Clearly no-one else liked our song choices as they didn't get up to dance for them was literally just us 2 on the dance floor but even when people had picked songs it was mainly just us 2.

The night ended at midnight and we were kicked out of the room. We stayed up for a bit and was talking to people before we finally called it a night at 1:30am.

We managed to get up at 8am for breakfast which was being served from 8:30 - 9:30am which not everyone managed to make. There was cereal, granola, fruit, yoghurt and pastry. Then you could order a hot breakfast like a full English, eggs bacon etc we went for pancakes which was a disappointment. There were super thick and not very nice.

We had to leave at 9:15am as Holly had an art class back in Liverpool in town. The drive back was also a smooth easy drive with no traffic luckily.

Had such a good day - I still stand that weddings are the best even if I'm not going to have my own. Everyone is just so happy and having a good time. The venue was so nice minus the waiting around - if they sort that out it's the perfect small venue for a samll wedding.

Hope Dan and Lauren had the best day and thank you again for having me and Holly there!
