Venice Day 2

Day 2 in Venice we got up at 8am to go a bakery not far from the hotel to finally get a pistachio croissant.

€1,20 and had a good amount of pistachio filling!

This wasn't far from the Rialto Bridge

Then we headed off to the ferry terminal to go to Burano. Which you can read all about here.

Bridge of Sighs

This is the bridge of sighs - this bridge connects the new prison to the interrogation rooms of the Doge palace. It is called this as convicts would sigh walking along before being imprisoned - their last view of Venice through the windows.

We finally got someone to take a photo of us! We asked this American couple.

When we got back from Burano we were on the hunt for some lunch which was a bit of a task as we didn't know what we wanted but were hungry. I opted for pasta to go from Pasta Go Espresso

I seen a lot of people eating black pasta so thought I'd give it a go and got

6. Nero Di Seppia - Calamari, Nero Di Seppia, cuttlefish, black ink cuttlefish with Fussli Pasta - €7

It was nice but had about 2 pieces of calamari in. Also Italian's really like their pasta al dente. It was really slow as they make your pasta as you order it and was run by Asian people. Turns out there was one around the corner that was cheaper as well.

Holly ended up getting a wrap - well it was basically like a pizza as it wasn't a tortilla it was pizza dough that was stuffed. The microwaved it then like grilled it but it was still cold. It was nice though.

After we went in St Mark's Basilica. We joined a really long queue and had to both make, make shift skirts as we both had shorts on. We read in our tour book that it was free to get in but had to pay €3.

St Mark's Basilica

It wasn't that good as there's not much to see unless you pay more to go around the full thing. Waste of €3s really!

After we went up St Mark's Campanile which it the big clock tower

St Mark's Campanile

It costs €10 and it's a quick lift that takes you straight up to the top with 360 views of Venice. You get as long as you want up there and just wait for the lift to come back before you can go down as there is only the 1 lift. We had to wear a mask in the lift.

The views were so good! Definitely worth going up.

After we just wandered round and finally tried cannolo which we kept seeing in the bakery windows

We got Sfogliatella Alla Crema - €1,50 (the one on the left) which was wasn't a fan of like the pastry wasn't great but loved the filling.

Cannolo al Pistachio - €1,50 which was really good - pastry and filling were good would recommend and wish we did get more of!

When we read that gondola rides were €80 we didn't realise that it was the standard rate. Just couldn't justify paying that much so expensive!

The Italian version of Fanta Lemon which was nice and refreshing

Our gelato fix for the day! We tried Venchi which is gourmet Italianchocolate brand.

I got Venchi Custard Cream & Hazelnut and Biscuit.
Holly got vegan chocolate I think it was.
Holly also got a pistachio chocolate which is what the green wrapper is.

Next post will be dinner from this night and our second gelato fix of the day!
