Verona day 2 - the last day of the holiday. We got up at 8:30am and went to have breakfast at Elk Bakery which I'm going to do a separate post for. After we walked to the arena. We queued for 30 minutes to get in and it was disappointing. Don't know why it took so long to get in because it's tiny and not much to see. It's nothing like the colosseum in Rome. There was a concert happening there that weekend so most of it was closed off with a sign saying this. It cost €10 for a ticket and considering you couldn't see the full thing tickets should be discounted!
It was the hottest day of the holiday even though it was forecast thunderstorms so we swapped our portable fans for umbrellas. When we needed our fans and not the umbrellas unless we were using it as a parasol!
Not sure whether I'd like to go to a gig at this arena as it is right in the sun no shade so you would be melting and if it rained you'd be soaked! But is a cool venue to say you're been to.
So the castle is an art gallery and it was €6 for the gallery and the castle walls. It had all religious paintings.
Don't get this creepy painting as there's all posters around the city with it on. Apparently it's famous?
After we went to get some lunch. I got some fresh pasta from a place we walked past the day before.
I got the 8 piece mix tortelloni - €11. It was nice but had no sauce which actually worked alright for me as I like dry pasta.
Holly got one of these pizza slices. They're sold be weight so it gets weighed for the price. It was nice - weird having potato on pizza though (it looks like pineapple)
Then we just wandered around again and got our last gelato of the trip from Grom which is a chain.
I got coconut and pistachio - €3. It was really creamy and the cone was good. After we walked back to the hotel to get our bags to leave. We got a taxi to the bus station to get a coach back to Milan.
We got to the airport on time for our 8:40pm flight but it got delayed as France were having air strikes so all flights were delayed and some were cancelled. Ours got delayed to 9pm, then 9:50pm but it kept changing.
Milan airport is big so we just ended up walking around and got food. We got a pasta to go with a bottle of water for €12.
Our flight was a nightmare as people were just annoyed with the delayed flight and then causing issues for no reason like putting bags up in the overhead when they should put them under the seat. There wasn't enough space in the overhead as the flight was pretty much full.
We took off at 9:56pm and landed at 11pm.
And that's the last one the Italy holiday posts - 1 more from our breakfast at Elk bakery.
How many gelatos and ice creams can you have in the space of 5 days?
The answer is 9! 2 a day which isn't that bad as it was hot. I was on an ice cream ban when I come back till Dan and Lauren's wedding. Who filled my void by having ice cream at their wedding!
The second one I got from Venice in the night pistachio & almond with a white chocolate dipped cone I think was my favourite. They all kind of blurred into one really and couldn't compare but do know the coconut one from Venice was the worst.
Venice was probably my favourite place of the trip and we could have done with spending less time in Verona and more time in Milan. Verona was expensive and there wasn't anything to do there other than Juliet's house and the arena. You could easily do a week in Venice and visit the different islands. Verona you're done after a day. Ready for my next holiday...
