Vienna Part 2

Last morning and afternoon in Vienna. We'd booked the day before to go to the Spanish Riding School to see the horses train. The training was 10-11am so we checked out of the hotel and left our bags there then got the tube. We didn't have time to go anywhere for breakfast or to grab anything.

The ticket was €14 (£12.05) for standing think it was €16 for seated. You can do tours around the school to see the horses in the stables but we opted for the training which only happens in the morning.

It started to snow

You're not allowed to take photos so these were sneaky photos

The Spanish Riding School is one of the oldest riding schools. It's dedicated to traditional dressage and they do shows all around the world and is really famous and prestigious. It was interesting seeing the horses trot around and how they control them to do all these different tricks. Back was getting a bit achy standing up for an hour but unless you got the more expensive seats at the end in the royal boxes don't think they were anything better.

After we walked to get some breakfast/brunch. We were starving and couldn't find anywhere but stumbled on this place called Lepic. The menu outside looked good with granola and fruit but then when we sat down the menu was different and very limited. We were that hungry that we just ended up staying as we didn't know where else to go.

I got a plain omelette and Holly got scrambled eggs with bread. It didn't really fill me up as I ate it that quick.

After we walked to Hundertwasserhaus.

Didn't know there was a canal.

Hundertwasserhaus

Hundertwasserhaus is an apartments that was designed by architecture Friedensreich Hundertwasser. Like Gaudi in Barcelona. Real people live there so you can't look inside but can go in the Hundertwasser Village opposite that has a souvenir shop and cafe. There's a gallery as well but otherwise nothing really to see.

Random red telephone box.

After we went to walked to Vienna City Hall.

Austrian Parliament Building

Really impressive building!

Vienna City Hall - Wiener Rathaus

So we finally found the main Christmas Markets and nearly didn't even come here. There was an ice rink as well that was really big and had loads of stalls.

Burgtheater

The national theatre of Austria - another fancy building!

After we went to finally try apple strudel or apfelstrudel. Went to one of the oldest coffee houses Cafe Eiles.

Holly got it with whipped cream

I got it with vanilla sauce which was very watery cold custard - not a fan. I love thick yellow Bird's custard!

It didn't taste as nice as we thought it was going to. The strudel is €4.50 then charged €1.30 for the cream and €1.80 for the vanilla sauce. You can have it plain but it is a bit dry so you do need something with it so don't know why they charge you for custard/cream. They also do food there with a massive menu. Service was really slow and crap though.

After we went to get the tube back to the hotel to get our bags to then get the tube to the train station to head to Salzburg.
