Patisserie Valerie

Afternoon tea for four (3)

For Danielle's birthday we got her afternoon tea at Patisserie Valerie as they had an offer on Groupon for £25 for 2 people. It was something different than the usual gifts we would get each other. (Yes her birthday was in July).

Kelly unfortunately couldn't make it as she's living in London but we had her fair share of the food.

It was the first time I'd been to Patisserie Valerie, I have had the macarons that Gabby got me for my birthday a couple of years ago. Sadly it wasn't a good one.

We walked in & was told there was a 30 minute wait for a table. Told if we wanted afternoon tea it would be an hour wait or anything from the kitchen would take a while but drinks & cakes from the counter would be quick. People were asking if they could book & come back later, the guy said they weren't taking any bookings & that you would just have to wait. There's nothing he can do. The place was full & there just wasn't enough staff to go around which was why the service was so slow.

It turned out to be a 15 minute wait which was ok. We were seated at a table that hadn't been wiped or cleared & got no service. There's a 15 minute rule of if no-one comes to you, you can go up to complain luckily for them the girl came at exactly 15 minutes from when we sat down. (Hannah was keen to time them). Took out drinks order & food.

Cappuccino

An eyelash on my milk jug when things were already awful.

Our tower came around 30 minutes after we seated.

Savoury
Cucumber on white bread
Smoked salmon & cream cheese on brown bread
Egg mayonnaise & cress on brown bread
Ham, spinach & mustard on white bread
Chicken, pesto & sunblazed tomatoes on brown bread
Mini vegetable quiche

Patisserie
1 x mini Victoria sandwich
2 x mini chocolate eclairs
1 mini carrot & walnut cake slice
1 x mini mixed berry mouse slice
1 x mini chocolate mousse slice

Scones
2 x fruit scone
2 x plain scone
Strawberry, apricot & blackcurrant jam, clotted cream & butter

Savoury food were fine apart from the ham mustard sandwich we didn't like them. Found it really weird that you only got 2 slice of each of the cakes between 2 people. The tiniest slices you could eat in one mouthful so not much to share between two. But yet you go 2 chocolate eclairs? Luckily for Danielle & Hannah I don't like them.

I've turned into a scone after that think I had 4 scones or at least 3/8 of them. Effort in the gym this morning has gone...

Wasn't a great experience at all really disappointed, would not recommend or go again. Service was awful they just can't handle the afternoon tea when it was busy before they even started doing it. The idea of not taking bookings for afternoon tea clearly doesn't work. They really need to have a think over how they are running the shop. I'm sure I could do better!

Hopefully the service does improve & if you plan on going it's a lot better than it was for us today! If you're looking for somewhere to have afternoon tea in Liverpool I would recommend Cuthbert's which I have been to 3x & have blogged about them. Just search Cuthbert's or afternoon tea in the search bar down the side of the page.

2 in 1

One of them rare days where you get 2 posts in 1 day within a couple of hours too! Well my birthday post was suppose to go out last night but I didn't get it finished before 12am so I thought I might as well just save it for today which makes more sense.

I went to town to day to look for a top to go with my new skirt I got from Zara in Rome but I couldn't find anything which means I'm probably just going to have to wear my tie shirt from Urban Outfitters yet again. It seems to be my go to shirt whenever I can't find a top as it goes with everything!

I don't really like the print that much but it was a bargain. It was only €3,99 reduced from €27,95! I looked on the Spanish site after I got it & it's €7,99 & £5.99 on the UK site!

You can get it from the UK site here

Also got this sweater from the Pull & Bear sale which was €5,99 not too sure what it's reduced from but it does look nicer in person where as the colour doesn't look great from my camera.

Leather Jacket - Matalan
Necklace - Mango via Asos
Top - Fruit of the Loom cut myself then nan sewn
Studded Belt - New Look
Real Leather Skater Skirt - H&M
Cutout Boots - Zara

This skirt from Topshop is really strange, I actually thought it was a pair of shorts. The material is like a coat... I don't actually like it I just wanted to try it on but you can get it from here

I seen this skirt in H&M & fell in love with it, I love the style of it & the 2 white circles are pockets. The fit & style is really flattering. I really wanted to buy it since H&M are doing 25% off 1 item (I don't get why it's only 1 item, it's a bit silly) but I own too many bottoms & not enough skirts especially getting the one from Zara too! But if you want to get it it's £29.99 & you can get it here

Probably should have put my hair behind my shoulders so you could see the fit of the top but the top is a boxy top. Both are from Miss Selfridge in John Lewis. I would've got this for tomorrow if I didn't have that Zara skirt! Slightly annoying that I don't actually like that Zara skirt that much but what's not to like for the price. Also I don't own a co-ord!
But if you want to get it you can get the top from here & the skirt from here. I might get it if there's a next outing of some sort but for now I really don't need any more bottoms but definitely more tops!

Yummy macarons Gabby got me from Patisserie Valerie. I've never been there before as the cakes are quite pricey & I know these wouldn't have been cheap! I think the first are vanilla? Green pistachio, light brown coffee?, red strawberry, yellow lemon & dark brown are chocolate. I did try them all but still couldn't work out what the flavours were & they're not stated on the box.

I'm still doing my Rome post & will try to get it up as soon as I can!

HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO ME!

I have sadly finally joined the 21 club the last out of all my friends. I'm glad I'm the last birthday as I seriously don't want to grow up! Being old is no fun I wish I was a kid forever! I'm the most immature & definitely don't look 21 at all & can probably still pass for 16. I don't feel older but the fact I am older & I know I am it makes me feel old if that makes sense?

Gabby got my a cactus!

She also got me a yankee candle,  I can't smell pineapple though

Macarons from Patisserie Valerie

Leather Jacket - Matalan
Bag - Topshop
Top - From Danielle - New Look
Necklace - Mango via Asos
Jeans - Hollister
Cutout Boots - Zara

These are the worst jeans ever I don't understand them like they are massive around my hips. I know they're super low & I got them when I was like 16 & a lot skinner but even now they still don't fit!

I went to the gym in the morning so nothing special or different. I think I fell asleep during the end of yoga when we do our relaxation... As I missed a step out! It's not the first time I fell asleep when I was jet legged from Florida. Didn't do anything all day then went to the pub with Gabby, Kelly & Danielle. These are only photos with me & Kelly as we were sitting next to each other.

These are gifts I got off my Auntie & Uncle & Gabby. Hannah has my presents off Kelly & Danielle but she couldn't go last night but they've got a surprise for me tomorrow so it'll be my birthday round 2. Holly couldn't make it to the pub as my mum was being a pain & in the afternoon I'd rearrange the pub from yesterday night to tonight but then as my mum wasn't doing anything last night I didn't want to stay at home I changed it back when she changed her plans. But I'm hoping to go go-karting in a couple of weeks which will be my birthday round 3.

I went to Rome with my mum & dad last week which is meant to be my birthday/graduation present. I've been meaning to do a post of Rome but I took a lot of photos which I need to go through so hopefully I'll get that up before the end of the week!

What a coincidence this is post 127, my birthday is on the 27th & 27 is my "lucky"/favourite number.

Also we went to my nan's for dinner on Sunday. The first image shows the table all laid ready to eat! There are quite a few dishes but they're actually the same things each end of the table so everyone can reach. We had crispy duck & pancake as well as the usual rice & different dishes of food.

How pretty do these cakes look?! My auntie made them. They're pastry & inside is custard & coconut. The white are plain, the green are green tea flavoured & red are beetroot. But you can't taste the beetroot. I love the filling the pastry not too keen as it was quite dry which not much flavour but they look too good to eat! She definitely needs to go on the bake off!
