La Bistroteca Liverpool

Yesterday I'd won an Instagram competition for 2 roast dinners at La Bistroteca in the Baltic Market. All I had to do was like the post, made sure I was following Baltic Market and La Bistroteca Liverpool on Instagram. Tag as many people as I wanted to gain more entries then I got a DM last Sunday saying I'd won! I've never won an Instagram competition before so that was exciting. They asked for my name and the time I was thinking of going.

They asked if we wanted sides and we got

Guinness Glazed Pigs in Blanket
Truffle Cauliflower Cheese with Garlic and Herby Breadcrumbs

The pigs in blankets were sweet which I wasn't expecting since it had a Guinness glaze. We weren't a fan of the truffle cauliflower cheese. I've had truffle before with pasta but it didn't really work with the cauliflower I don't think. If you love truffle and cauliflower cheese this is definitely for you!

Steak - Crispy confit garlic and thyme roast potatoes, fluffy Yorkshire pudding, honey-glazed carrots and winter greens, carrot puree and rich gravy

We both got the steak but should have got a chicken just to try both but the steak looked better. The meat was nice and soft. Could have done with the gravy all over the top of the food and the roast potatoes could have been crunchier but it was a good roast. We both enjoyed it and was so full after it.

La Bistroteca do steak fries, fish and chips, sandwiches, European taste bites. This weekend was the return of the roast hence the competition. It's served from 12pm until they sell out. They're also doing a Yorkshire pudding wrap from next weekend.

Pistachio filled Churros - £11
Churros Churreria

We were that full that we still had space for some churros. (After this I really was stuffed and glad we were walking round for the River of Light to walk all that food off!)

I've had the Biscoff and Kinder Bueno churros before but needed to try the pistachio ones. I thought I'd go different and try the filled but the normal ones are better. I felt like the inside of the churro wasn't cooked through properly. If you get the normal ones you get 5 skinny ones where as the filled you get 3 chunky ones. Also the pistachio sauce wasn't great. There was no pistachio taste to it. Think the Kinder Bueno might have been the best one out of the 3 I've had. They also do classic churros, milk chocolate, white chocolate, Nutella and Spanish caramel. I've tried all the good ones now!

Thanks Baltic Market and La Bistroteca for the competition and free roast dinner with sides!

The Old School House, Sunday Roast

Went to The Old School House tonight for a Sunday roast with Sarah. We did go to Hafla Hafla but they said they had a large party coming in so didn't have a free table at the minute for 2. The Old School House was where we were going to go anyway. They had the Liverpool v Man Utd match on so it was busy and a bit loud when we got there. It was 4-0 then finished 7-0 so everyone was a might rowdy. The table they gave us was right next to a TV.

I've been here before for brunch last summer but not for lunch or dinner. As it was Sunday we went for the Sunday roast. It says they serve it until they run out so our back up was going to be a pizza as they do pizza and other bits too.

Sarah got the Veggie Nut Roast with all the trimmings - £17.50

I got the Pork Belly Roast with all the trimmings - £16.50
Roast pork belly, roast potatoes, Yorkshire Pudding, roasted carrots and parsnip, sweet potato mash and 1 tender stem broccoli

I asked for my gravy separate as I only put gravy on the meat, Yorkshire pudding and potatoes. I don't put it on the veg. I don't want everything to taste the same!

It was massive and I'm so full after it - didn't even eat it all because there was that much.
The Yorkshire pudding wasn't great - it was dead dry and was burnt, over done. Pork belly wasn't crispy and was hard to cut with just a normal knife. They were stingy with just the one piece of broccoli. I think the roast we had in Leaf on Smithdown was better.

Might try the pizza and hope that's better than the one I had yesterday from Il Ristorante by Crust. As long as it's not dead salty and too thin so it goes all sloppy! Also our server was very strange. Other than the food it was nice to catch up as we don't really see each other. We see each other in the gym but don't train together like we used to. So we definitely need to catch up more often!

The Elephant Roast

Sunday Roast - The Elephant

Yesterday I went to The Elephant for a Sunday roast with Jo and Sarah. Never had the roast before and been wanting to try it as I heard it's meant to be good.

Me and Sarah got the chicken

Jo got the beef. She couldn't have the Yorkshire pudding so asked for more potatoes instead.

The chicken was nice and wasn't dry as it was on the bone but the roast potatoes were solid so hard to cut through. They weren't crispy and just weren't a roast potato. There wasn't enough gravy especially when the Yorkshire pudding was huge - It was over done and a bit burnt and greasy. The sausage stuffing was super salty. Could have done with more veg.

Not sure why people rave about it as it definitely isn't the best roast I've had. I just don't think roasts are that good when you go out for them. I think home made roasts are definitely better. Was disappointed as I was looking forward to it! I may be a harsh critic but I'm not settling for mediocre when I'm paying for it!

60 Hope Street

Went for lunch with some of the gym crew today at 60 Hope Street - Jonny, Jo, Rich, Sarah & Andrea.

Did a legs and arm's session with Jo and Rich in the gym this morning. Probably struggle to walk tomorrow..
Poor Jonny has a fear of missing out and practically flew from Chester where he'd been working this weekend just to see us. We did agree to book it for 1:30 but had to change it to 2:30 just for him even though he didn't turn up till nearly 3.

They do a Sunday lunch deal - 2 courses for £15 or 3 for £20. I got a starter and the chicken breast roast.

Pumpkin soup with goat's cheese & honeycomb

Rich got pastrami salmon with samphire, pickles & mustard

Jonny & Jo got the fish cakes

Me, Sarah & Jonny got the chicken breast roast

Rich got the fillet steak

Andrea & Jo got the beef roast

When 4 pots of gravy isn't enough for a roast...

Rich ordered the cheesecake for desert then this turned up and was like what's this?! Andrea was like it is cheesecake! Then called the waitress over and was like I ordered the cheesecake?? She replied smiling that is it on the menu it's cheese and cake on the lunch deal. He was like but I've not been ordering from the lunch menu I wanted the berry cheesecake? So he had to order the cheesecake again. It was so funny how they got it so wrong!!

Andrea, Sarah, Jonny & Jo got the figgy toffee pudding but Sarah's didn't come when everyone else's did so they ended up taking 3 deserts off the menu!

Rich eventually got his cheesecake not cheese and cake.

The soup I really liked - the roast was alright not the best I've had. The parsnips were definitely under done and really hard. It's really nice in there quite fancy but don't think we're going to be allowed back in there not as a group anyway. Didn't really fit in...

Sarah when you going to learn you can't leave your phone unattended with us?! Poor Sarah ended up with about 200 selfies while she went to the toilet.. Everyone around us were looking at us weird...

It's nice to be out and catching up without being a sweaty mess in the gym!

Lunch Date

Cute little lunch date with Kelly to Panam at the Albert Dock. Went all out with a 3 course meal. I can't hack that much food I'm used to having just the 1 course. Didn't even have dinner when I come home I was that full but it was a super late lunch we didn't eat till about 3ish.

For our starter we both ordered the Sticky BBQ ribs with roast potato and jalapeno salad. The ribs were nice got quite a lot of meat - definitely wouldn't get ribs if I was on a proper first date! Didn't really take notice of the jalapeno and ate the potato and was like there's a kick!

Kelly got the beef roast

I got the chicken roast - with the smallest bit of chicken

Kelly got the brownie

I got the white chocolate and raspberry cheesecake with coconut ice cream

The lighting was awful in there to take photos of food! The food was good could have done with a bit more gravy or pour your own gravy for the roast. The Yorkshire pudding doesn't look appetising at all but it was nice!

I don't even like cheesecake but went all out and just got it. I did have the ice cream though!  It was £14.95 for 2 courses and £18.95 for 3 so might as well go all 3! Love a little lunch or dinner date as you can tell!
