Lycabettus Hill & Panathenaic Stadium

Lycabettus Hill

Our second full day in Athens we had breakfast and left the hotel at about 9:30am and walked to the get the funicular to go up to Lycabettus Hill which was a mile away from our hotel. We actually had to walk up some steep steps before getting the funicular. It costs €10 to go up and it’s super steep. There is an option to walk up and down it.

Some steep steps to climb

The highest point in Athens with the best 360 view!

You can see the thousands of people up on Acropolis Hill. Their photos will be nothing like the ones we took when we were there the day before. Wished the weather was like when we were at the Acropolis with the best blue skies but it might have been our own fault as we were slagging Zeus off for having a crap temple the day before... So he got his own back at us by giving us crap weather.. We still got some nice photos though.

Need to hire this man to be our photographer with us on holiday. He took these photos on my phone! Samsung Galaxy S20 FE

After we walked down to the Panathenaic Stadium which was also a mile away from Lycabettus Hill – a multi-purpose stadium and the only stadium in the world built entirely out of marble. Tickets are €10 and you get an audio guide but there might be a wait for it as they don’t have many to hand out and it's done manually with this angry woman at a booth doing it by hand writing people's numbers down! You can download the app but it’s only available for iPhones.

Royal seats

People taking photos and videos of each other running and some people doing actual laps around the stadium

The audio guide was really good and interesting and it gave a lot of information and better than trying to read loads. I prefer someone else telling me rather than me trying to read paragraphs like in the museums.

Tunnel leading to the museum

Cool seeing all the batons and posters from past Olympic games!

Whoever did Rio and Tokyo need sacking because they are just not in line with the others!

We timed it well to have a phot shoot as there weren't that many people waiting around. The podiums were quite wobbly and it was windy so the olive crown wasn't staying on - like a storm was brewing!

Yoga paying off but I need to work on straightening my standing leg.

After this we walked back into the main bit of the city which was only 10 minutes away where we did some souvenir shopping. I bought a gold leaf headband for €1 off a man outside the Temple of Zeus and I got a Maccies ice cream since we were passing it.

We had an early dinner prior to our coach trip to the Temple of Poseidon we got gyros from this super busy street stall called Tylixto. Every time we walked past there was a massive queue outside of it so it must be good. There's a table right outside you can sit and there's seats upstairs but it wasn't open.

It was really food -the meat wasn't dry and flavoursome. They were €3,70.

I got Gyros Pork and changed my filling to what you get with the chicken – Tomato, lettuce, yoghurt-mayonnaise, fries

Holly got Chicken Skewer - Tomato, lettuce, yoghurt-mayonnaise, fries

After we walked back to the hotel then headed to the station for our trip to see the Temple of Poseidon at sunset. That will be another post as there's over 90 photos I need to go through for that post!
