Toronto Zoo and Ripley's Aquarium

Toronto Zoo

Day 2 in Toronto we went to the zoo! We bought a Toronto City Pass for $105.36 (£64.88) which we could use it at 6 different attractions with the zoo being one of them.

 Probably the worst zoo though as there was hardly any animals and most of the animals we did see were asleep! It was pretty hot though and we all got minor sun stroke so that might be the same for the animals.

Otters! 

The first animal we went to see was the Orangutan and it was so sad because it was asleep then it woke up and seen people staring at it and started to hide under a blanket. It was like it knew that it was on show but didn't want to be. 

Zoo's are sly on the animals as they aren't in the environment they're suppose to be and used to. They're stuck in a confined space with people just staring at them everyday and not free how they want and should be. But then for some animals it is safer and better for them to be in a zoo so they don't become endangered or poached. 

We didn't stay long as the 3 of us had sun stroke and did feel sly on the animals. 

Me and Tracy went to have lunch at a Chinese restaurant and Chris got off to have food somewhere else and have a nap back at the apartment.

Later on in the day we went to the aquarium that's at the bottom of the CN tower which is just a walk away from where we were staying.

The aquarium was also one of the places we could go with the city pass.

Animal and fish filled day! We did end up going to have seafood at Red Lobster after it as well...

Chris got everything, lobster tail, prawns and asparagus. 

Me and Tracy got the same lobster, scallops and prawns with broccoli.

We need Red Lobster in the UK! But then again there is no seafood in the UK.

Sweet Potato Mash Fish Pie

Sweet Potato Mash Fish Pie - so easy to make & doesn't even take that long!

2 large Sweet Potatoes

25g Butter

A Leek - cut into chunks

Onions

25g Plain Flour

400ml Milk

Chunky meaty boneless fish - Cod, Pollack, Haddock, Salmon or fish pie mix

Preheat your oven to 200°C

Peel & boil your mash potatoes in pan. Once soft mash it. You can add some butter or cheese if you like but I just seasoned with some salt & pepper.

In another pan melt you butter than put add you onion & leek. Cook it until your onion is translucent. 

Add you flour so your veg is coated.

Add the milk, mixing it continuously so you don't get any lumps until you get a nice thick white sauce. Season with salt & pepper.

 Take your pan off the heat & add your fish.

In a casserole dish place your mixture into it & top with the sweet potato mash.

Bake in the oven for 20-25 minutes until bubbling at the edges.

You can use white potato. I changed the recipe for sweet potato as I prefer it & wanted to try something different. It's up to you what fish you choose to use. Any chunky meaty fish will do & most supermarkets/fish mongers do fish pie mixes where they have different chunky bits of fish you can put into a pie. You can also put the left overs into a box & freeze it to eat whenever you don't want to cook.

Florida - Discovery Cove

We went to Discovery Cove on Father's Day & it was just such a nice chilled day. You go early in the morning & they provide you with breakfast which just has everything! You get snacks all throughout the day & lunch too. The sun beds are free & when you go into the toilets you get towels, they even have shower gel, shampoo & conditioner in the showers! Every time I went the toilet I would take a towel I was loving it!

You also got a snorkel & optional wetsuits, vests to wear to go in the water. They have a made reef where you can swim with fish & massive sting rays. They also have sharks but there's a glass barrier. It is bad for the fish having all these people chasing after them in the water but also it's a good experience for people who may not ever get to go to a real reef!

Gary, Kirsty & Kirsty's mum swam with dolphins while we sat on the side to watch. You had to pay extra to do that.

I would recommend Discovery Cove to anyone if they're going to Florida because it's just such a nice day out. If I ever go back to Florida I'll definitely be going again. You get everything there on tap for you & the food is actually really nice! They even have wifi if you want to tweet & instagram!

Tomorrow will be the last of my Florida posts! I've been making up for the 2 weeks I've been away & I did a lot!
