Christmas Eve Eve

Cute Christmas day today - we went to The Elephant for lunch then went to Woolton Cinema to watch Miracle on 34th Street.

Rocking the minnie mouse hair as I went the gym in the morning but didn't have enough time to wash it. I'm going in the morning anyway. But the hair isn't practical just wouldn't stay!

Hannah was late but David was actually on time - he was there first!

Kelly booked the table and thought she booked for the Christmas menu but turns out she didn't as you had to pre-order all your food so had to order from the normal menu! Was looking forward to a turkey roast :( 

Danielle got the Smoked Salmon Pizzetta.

Kelly & David both got the Winter Salad.

Hannah got the Chicken, Bacon & Avocado Sandwich.

I got the Salmon salad. 

The salad was nice but definitely was not worth £11.50! Danielle's pizzetta was nice, wish I got that instead of the pizza on Tuesday night!

We exchanged our secret santa presents. We had a £5 limit and I was super proud of my presents since I'm the worst person when it comes to buying gifts!

Without realising we were giving our presents to the person to our left. So I had David, David had Danielle, Danielle had Hannah, Hannah had Kelly and Kelly had me!

I got David a photo frame with a photo of the 2 of us on the last day of school 6 years ago, a veggie recipe book, socks and a flapjack - we have a running joke over the socks and flapjack! 

Kelly got me a baking book and a whisk but made me open the whisk first which didn't make any sense! David sacrificing actually being on time forgot his present for Danielle when she reminded everyone in the group chat to bring it! He had to text his brother who's a taxi driver to bring it for her if he was around in the area.

After lunch we went to the cinema to watch Miracle on 34th Street. Poor Hannah was ready to walk out if it was going to be in black and white cos they went to see it 2 years ago but didn't realise it was the old one! 

Kelly ditched us for her family.

Danielle eventually got her present even though she chose it herself yesterday when they went shopping and bought it! We opened them in the interval and they were nice.

The film was good but I was so tired and full of cold I was falling asleep during it. Hannah did actually fall asleep for a good 20 minutes in the first half though. 

Liverpool Christmas Market

I finished work yesterday for Christmas at 2 and met up with Danielle, Kelly & David who were out shopping. We went to the Christmas market where they had mulled wine - well Danielle & Kelly did. David got a Bailey's hot chocolate.

Christmas market is really small and I thought it was rubbish. It has a nice back drop being outside St George's Hall but it's too out the way people just wouldn't go there unless they were getting the train from Lime Street! Liverpool needs to up their Christmas Market game.

I'm so ready for bed right now and it's only half 8! But it's starting to finally feel like Christmas.. 2 more days!

Jersey Girls

Last night I went to The Elephant pub quiz with Holly and Becky. It was Holly's birthday on Monday - officially a quarter of a century old grandma! Becky's currently in Liverpool working - it was nice to see her again after seeing her when I visited Holly in Nottingham!

We had pizza which we thought was 2 for 1 as they usually do every Tuesday night but apparently cos it's so busy in the run up to Christmas they're not doing it this week! Not like they're not making enough money as it is! I got the hoisin duck pizza, Holly's got the pesto chicken & Becky got a burger.

So much rocket!! Forgot to tell them to not put it on - as I was too busy telling them to not put coriander on it! The pizza wasn't great - it was like the pizza topping on greasy naan bread. I couldn't even eat the whole thing it was too much.

I was on the mocktails - strawberry daiquiri without the alcohol as I was driving. The Elephant is only up the road from my house but I was meeting them later as I went to the gym and didn't want to walk home on my own in the dark!

Holly booked a table and they sat us upstairs but we wanted to do the pub quiz that was only on downstairs. It was so full as it was the "Big Fat Christmas Quiz 2017" there were no seats or tables! Holly brought her giant iPad which we had to stand up with for the first 3 rounds until we eventually got a table. I came up with the name Jersey Girls as that's where Becky is from and was the first thing that came to me under pressure. 

I thought we were going to do alright since I've done so many Christmas quizzes this week but there was all different categories and as it's speed quizzing on an app it makes it harder. You've got to be quick and on the ball to pick up them bonus points to win it! We didn't win the quiz but we didn't come last at least - blame the fact we weren't prepared for it standing up and the questions were hard! The prize was 4 tickets for their New Years Eve Party which I was so up for as I need new years eve plans!

Winner's Meal

2 weeks ago me & Kelly won the pub quiz at The Elephant. We did really well considering we only got 2 questions wrong & missed out on 1 question. The quiz is done electronically so if you're the fastest to answer in that round you get bonus points. The first round was on news of the week, then it was on the Euros well about England, holiday destinations & last round was feel good music so you had to guess the song. I told Kelly we were there to win it cos I am ridiculously competitive & we did. We were top 3 throughout then at the end we just smashed it!

Tonight we went to claim our free meal, 2 mains & a bottle of prosecco. I wasn't actually sure as to where our free meal was for either at the Elephant or the Liberty Tavern which is part of them as I got a little too excited when we won. But I rang up the other day to book & they weren't sure either but since they gave me an elephant business card I guess it must be for there.

Kelly got the steak & chips the most expensive thing on the menu at £17.50. I got the pan fried fillet of hake at £14.50 which was the 3rd most expensive thing on the menu. I think the menu is a bit rubbish not much choice really as it is a pub. I would never pay £14.50 for what I got as it was pretty small & nothing special but it was free so I can't complain! Kelly was glad she was with me as she had the whole bottle of prosecco to herself.

The pub quiz is run every Tuesday night at 9pm where they also do 2 for 1 on their pizzas.

Liberty Tavern

I went to the Liberty Tavern tonight for Suzanne's leaving meal. She left before Christmas but people weren't free before then so we ended up doing it tonight. We went to the Liberty Tavern which is only up the road from mine next to the Elephant pub. We were meant to be going to the Elephant but they wouldn't let us book a table then wouldn't let a group of 9 in. I met up with them at half 7 as I wasn't eating, only to show my face & have a drink. I only ended up having an orange juice as I was driving. (Yes it's only a 10/15 min walk but I decided to drive. This is what happens when you have the luxury of a car, get super lazy).

Considering it's only up the road from mine this is the first time I've been, I did used to be called the Bubble & never went to it then. It's expensive for food & drink which is probably why I've never been but I do want to try the £50 steak & lobster to share.

Free Meal

Last night me, Holly & Gabby finally went for our free meal we won last month after winning the pub quiz. We had to find an evening we were all free & when Gabby happened to be home as she goes to uni in Manchester. 

We got a bottle of Prosecco which Holly pretty much drank herself as me & Gabby didn't like it. We then got to choose a main each.

Holly got the herb roasted chicken breast Braised butter beans & tomatoes, hazelnut crumb. With a side of honey roast carrots, beets & greens.

I got warm sea bass nicoise Pan fried, French beans, Roma tomato, black olives, crispy hen’s egg, Dijon mustard dressing.

I didn't get the mustard as I don't like mustard but my meal was really nice so was Holly's side of veg.

Gabby got tomato, fior di latte, fresh basil. Margarita basically.

After we ordered I seen other people eating lobster which is a bit weird & very upmarket for a pub. Holly decides to tell me it might be the special for the night which led to me sitting there staring jealousy at other people making a mess eating their lobster. I wish I got lobster! :(

It was a really nice night to just catch up & enjoy a free meal. Hopefully we'll be able to do the pub quiz again maybe in the Easter break when Gabby's home & win another free meal!

I had an issue with my orange juice though it was definitely off & they had to open a new carton for me.
