SIX the Musical

Went to see Six the Musical at the Empire Theatre last night with Danielle. Kelly and David have been raving about how good it is so we ended up booking tickets when we last seen each other after Christmas as Kelly was taking her mum so we just booked to go the same day.

It's about Henry VIII's 6 wives. So a bit like Hamilton but not as big or expensive. We went to the 5pm showing and it was 1hr 30 mins with no break as there was another showing at 8pm which I preferred without having to have a break and wasn't too long. We sat in the stalls but was quite far to the right. Would have preferred to be more central but we didn't have much choice of seats.

It wasn't what I was expecting when it started. It is just 6 woman on stage who play each of the 6 wives with a band on stage and sing their story. They were interactive with the crowd and was pretty much all singing and no talking. It was a history lesson as you learn about the wives because I couldn't name all 6 of them before the show or in the right order, just about know the rhyme of divorce, beheaded, died, divorce, beheaded, survived! I've listened to the soundtrack and I definitely know more now than I did after watching the show as once you're there you are listening but can't take it all in. The music isn't typical musical music it is like modern pop music and rap which is definitely more my thing and how it is compared to be like Hamilton. Like Kelly and David have said if you're tight for money and want something a bit cheaper than Six is the one you'd go to as Hamilton is twice the price and you have to go to London to see it. Six is currently doing a UK tour with it's last day in Liverpool tonight.

After it we met up with Kelly and her mum then went to Gino's 360 sky bar with her dad and Josh. I did go there the other week with my work mates but didn't take any photos so I definitely made up for it last night.

 We had 1 drink with them then me and Danielle went for sushi at AKA Sushi which used to be called Naked Noodle on Bold Streer which I've been to a few times as it's the best sushi in Liverpool.

Rainbow Roll - Salmon, tuna, seabass, crabstick, avocado & cucumber - £12.99

New York Roll Maki - Tuna, avocado, apple, mayonnaise - £8.99

 

We tried this as it had apple in it which was something different. As Danielle was amazed at it was 2 pieces apple, 1 piece of avocado and 1 piece of tuna. The mayo was a bit spicy which I wasn't expecting and wasn't a fan of but it was nice.

I could have easily eaten all this all to myself and more but it was like 8:30pm so not the best time to be stuffing myself with sushi.

It was a nice night and we've said we need to go the theatre more often as the last thing I did go and see was Hamilton but that was in London. I think the last thing I saw in Liverpool was War House which was actually rubbish and disappointing and years ago!

Bottomless Brunch

Went for bottomless brunch at Tempest on Tithebarn for Danielle's birthday yesterday. It's been a few years since we've been together and celebrated Danielle's birthday.

We went to Tempest which was really nice. Danielle, Kelly and Hannah did the bottomless brunch where they got 90 minutes to choose from a list of 11 different cocktails and food for £35. I just got my own drink and food from the menu.

I finally got my waffle fix!

I got it basically dissected and Danielle got it how it should have looked. I don't like fruit mixed with stuff and I don't like cream but it didn't end up coming with cream luckily!

Kelly asked them to get her a piece of cake and sang Happy Birthday to her. Fully embarrassed and awkward!

It's really nice in there and has a rooftop bar but we sat inside which was nice and cool as it was so hot yesterday. After Danielle booked a table at Abditory wine bar in Queen's Avenue.

Danielle got a salt and pepper chicken toastie as for £3.75 it was a good price

After we went to Maccies to get a McFlurry as I really wanted one because it was so hot and we went to Naked Noodle to get some sushi and went back to Kelly's as she had a free house. It was nice to catch up and hopefully get to do it soon! Hope you enjoyed your birthday Danielle!

Record Store Day 2020

5 months later finally reunited with Holly! The last time we seen each other was back in March the weekend before lockdown happened where we went to Tiny Rick's Cafe to play board games.

For my birthday Holly said she would get me the special Record Store Day 2020 release of  Bastille - All This Bad Blood. Go to town to get the record and have lunch at Naked Noodle which was pre planned before I went with Jo on Wednesday night. We got to town for 10:30 there was a small queue. We were so lucky because we got the last record in the shop! Holly joked while we were outside "what would you do if the person in front got the last one." It was the last one at the front of the shelf as well and they said they did sell a couple already this morning so we got there at the right time as it was open from 8am.

It's Bastille's first album but the extended version. I already have Bad Blood on vinyl that Callum got me 2 years ago for my birthday. This also has Other People's Heartache which is the first mixtape of cover mash ups they put out that has never been on vinyl.

I finally own a record player! But actually really scared to open my record's I do have and play them on it. It's nice and compact so doesn't take up much room which I will need to try soon as I can't just leave it to collect dust.

We went round and did some shopping then went to Naked Noodle for lunch at around 1. Everything felt so much more expensive without the half price discount.

Matcha Mochi Ice Cream - £2.80

The sushi was really nice but the gyoza wasn't as good as when I went with Jo. These were overcooked and looking a bit burnt. The mochi ice cream was nice and refreshing for after.

It was so nice to finally catch up and see each other face to face. It was also weird being in town as it was busy but we never actually went to Liverpool One. Not really a fan of having to wear a mask in all the shops and having to use hand gel when you enter as it dries my hands out. But this is the new normal. We had to queue to go into most shops but it went really quick even for Primark even though the queue was long and around the shop.

Naked Noodle

Tried Naked Noodle on Bold Street which I've been wanting to try for a while. I actually thought it was a noodle bar as the name suggests but does sushi - the best I've had in Liverpool and since it's on the eat out to help out scheme I had to try it and make the most of the half price. (Annoying my birthday is tomorrow and not on a Monday, Tuesday or Wednesday when the offer is on!) Not had sushi in ages so needed my sushi fix. I've really missed my chance with it as it's been happening all through August to get people out again. The last day is bank holiday Monday next week which will be busy anyway.

We got there just after 6 and manged to get a seat straight away but as soon as we sat down there was a queue outside.

All staff wore face masks and when we were seated we were given a sheet to write our name and phone number with the time we entered and a bottle of hand gel was put on the table. They were definitely more cautious than Yum Cha.

I went with Jo and we went all out and ordered the most expensive platter - we both love sushi and we're getting it for half price so of course we went for the most expensive thing!

Set C (28 pcs) - £25.99

5 salmon sashimi, 5 tuna sashimi, 3 salmon nigiri, 3 tuna nigiri, 6 salmon roll, 6 tuna roll, seaweed salad & edamame

The platter only cost £13 and it was so good. All the sushi people were ordering was presented so nice and is so much better than Etsu.

Chicken Gyoza - £6

This was better than what we had at Yum Cha on Sunday. It might have cost more but you got more. It wasn't just a lump of chicken meat in pastry! It was done properly mixed with veg and minced.

Altogether it come to £16 which was really good. I could have easily ate more sushi but I'm going back on Sunday with Holly.

Jo actually bought a me a little carrot cake and sang Happy Birthday to me on her own. It was really sweet and nice and I knew she was going to do it as it's our tradition now she just couldn't get them to bring it out as it's only small in there.

After we went to Maccies to get an ice cream. They're not doing cones due to hygiene so we got 2 plain McFlurries and it was 2 for 1 as the two of them cos us £1 which is what they usually are each. Maccies are doing the eat out to help out too.

Town and Bold Street were so busy. It's all been pedestrianised now as part of Liverpool without walls so restaurants can have seats outside to social distance. Ko bar and grill, Kasbah and a steak house (don't know the name) had really long queues outside of them. Pretty much every restaurant was busy as they're doing the offer. If people are eating out they should be going to independent restaurants rather than the big chains or fast food. Should be taking the chance to try some where you wouldn't usually go or some where you've always wanted to try.

The ox from last Chinese New Year zodiac art commission is still up where me and Jo went round and found all 12 zodiac animals and won a meal for 2 with The Guide Liverpool. All other 11 animals have gone though sadly!
