Giant Spectacle Liverpool 2014 | Day 2

Saturday 26th July 2014

Memories of August 2014

Day 2 of the giants roaming the streets of Liverpool! I went out to see them walking today. We went to Kensington to see the them but actually missed the grandma walking through but waited to see the little girl giant & Xolo the dog. It was yet again a lovely sunny day, but very hot & sticky!

It's crazy how so many people have turned out to see the giants! It was estimated 300,000 turned out yesterday but there was definitely thousands more today probably around half a million! People are loving it, children amazed & adults turning into children again with amazement & feeling a little overwhelmed & emotional. Seeing people with tears in their eyes, I was feeling it building up as well but just about held it in!

Wore my free runs out today as I knew we'd be parking far & doing a lot of walking as there would be no where to park with pretty much the whole city out to see these giants!

Xolo the dog is my favourite & seems to be everyone else's too! The way the lilliputians (the people moving the puppets) are so talented & clever the way they can make them move to realistically! I think Xolo is a girl but I'm not too sure as I've it being related to as he but also she?

I've posted a video of Xolo walking on my instagram

She walked most of the road then was put on top of her bus to sit on. She even has a scooter which she rides & wears goggles & a helmet. Putting her on the bus & having siestas I think is mainly for the lilliputians to have a rest since they work so hard to make them move so realistically, pulling all ropes swinging, jumping up & down to make her arms & legs move when she walks. They were making their way into town towards the Queensway tunnel where she was going to have a 3hr nap.

We then walked into town to see them having their siesta to see grandma as I hadn't seen her yet.

Grandma in her wheelchair she is 85 years old! She does have a walking stick though to help her walk. She also had a bit of trouble with her neck last night that led to an hour delay going to the park. It kinda came off a bit but not completely.

She's made from silicone which makes her look even more realistic when she breathes & her nails where as the little girl giant is made from wood. Grandma is also 25ft tall & weighs 5 tonnes so you can definitely see her from a mile away!

She was heading to outside St George's Hall again to have her siesta but before she did while we stood waiting for the little girl to come round the corner behind her there was a loud explosion which was her farting! Her fart smells of vanilla. It's really funny how realistic they've made them as they crouch down on the floor to have a wee! So does Xolo who cocks her/his leg up! (I think it's a boy) The little girl also had a shower this morning before her travels while grandma smoked a pipe & had a glass of whiskey!

She told a story before her nap. She speaks French even though she is meant to be half British & Irish. A man translates what she says.

I want this lambanana that sits on the back of a bike! It's part of a charity I think.

It's crazy how many thousands how people have turned out to see these 3 giants!

She got off the bus & walked with Xolo to the Queensway Tunnel.

Sleepy grandma.

Then walked around the corner to see the little girl & Xolo asleep outside the Queensway tunnel.

We left town whilst the giants had their siesta where later on they made there way through town again & went on to Clarence Dock where they will be staying for their night before the last day tomorrow which I really want to go to as well to see them off as they leave the city! Who knows if they will come back again but I hope they do & Liverpool will definitely welcome them back with open arms again!

This lovely photo is from the Liverpool echo twitter of the little girl giant & her grandma hugging. It does bring a little tea to your eye & how magical they are. It's just something you've never seen before & how well they are performed as if they were real.

They will wake up approx at 9am tomorrow morning & leave via the Mersey at 12pm. It'll be sad to see them go as they made such a huge impact on the city the past couple of days. They have truly been amazing! I don't know how many times I've used that word but there really is no words to describe it & to be able to see it for yourself is something else, I don't think my photos or videos do them justice at all. I feel like such a tourist in my own city but I love stuff like this but how can you not?! You will love it when you see them yourself it's different seeing them in photos as they are so much better when you see them for yourself.
